FEG Hi Power trade

I would trade my LC9s for one. Actually I would go to the store and buy a new LC9s and trade that instead.

OK, the REAL obligatory attachment.View attachment 788660
Now that my eyes are wide open I can see it is definitely NOT 98% but a close 90. I'm happy with it. Interestingly, I also got the original instruction and safety manual, along with the sale's receipt. Purchased at Billy Fred's in Amarillo, TX on 6/15/1992.

Nice :) . Besides buying that high power book I recommended from Amazon if you haven't done so yet I also recommend removing the magazine disconnect on that. When you do I think you'll end up with a really nice trigger. Mine had a good trigger on it when I got it but it was a little gritty from the magazine disconnect dragging on it so I had it removed and it came out to something like 3.89 pounds and it's really nice.

I’ve had a few FEG hi-powers, and they were decent guns. They’re getting pricey, too. $250 will get you a rusty, pitted, fake-roll marked clunker. They don’t make them anymore, and s good one is going to cost north of $400.

I’d trade a plastic Ruger for a FEG Hi-Power all day long.

GSBuickman, I'll get the book. Thanks. The trigger isn't really that bad. It stacks, or double stacks in this case, about 3/8 inch then breaks cleanly. I have no idea what the poundage is. Youtube can teach me how to remove the magazine disconnect I suppose. BTW di you have a Buick GS? If so I'd be willing to swap you a slightly used FEG and maybe throw in a Titan 25:):)

Here's the ATI HP9 I picked up yesterday . In a way you could say it's a da / sa Hi Power varient :) .
BTW , yes, I had a 70' & a 72' Skylark GS's the latter of which was pumping out about 420 ponies. ..

I traded off my last FEG Hi-Power for a minty Glock 26 with three holsters. Even trade. I got rid of the Glock, too, but I still kind of miss the FEG.

Nathanael Greene

My brother has an Argentine FM and while it's a decent, reliable gun I would rate it just a tad below the FEG in terms of overall fit and finish and it's trigger pull. He primarily uses the FM as his car gun.

I've heard (not sure if it's true) that the Argentinian pistols are 100% compatible with Brownings.

For the two clones, it's probably a coin toss as to which is better. I think they're both great. I picked up an FM in the days when they were around $225 or so. I paid a little more for my FEG, as I recall. Love 'em both.

When I take people to the range and they try a Hi-Power, it's usually love at first shot.

That's for sure! When I have the kids with me it's always a struggle to see who get's to shoot the Hi-Power first!

I saw that in another thread recently. Looks like bad timing on the manufacturer's part... 20 years ago it would have been a must-have. Now, it's going to be relegated to a niche gun. Shame, it is probably way better than most of the plastic guns.

Finally got to take it out this a.m. to see how it does, shooting offhand from 7 and 15 yards. No FTF or FTE. No hiccups at all. I got a few hammer bites on the web of my hand. The sights are pretty rudimentary. Wearing my glasses and ear muffs I had some difficulty getting anything but a blurred view of the front sight. Can the front sight be changed without much difficulty? The rear sight is drift adjustable but still pretty low. Even so I was pleased with the performance and didn't mind the trigger staging at all, especially slow firing. Double taps were fast and accurate. I then shot double taps with my XDS 9 for comparison. The long trigger on the XDS made for confusing follow ups. Not sure when exactly the reset would happen (the best I can describe it), whereas the FEG was quick and came right back on target.
Target a 7 yards and then at 15.

I think I will take the youtube university course on removing the magazine disconnect. Any thoughts about a 185 lb Wolfe recoil spring?
I gotta say, I'm not quite sure where this HP will fit in. I carry a pocket 9 for CCW and a Redhawk for hiking. But I am really excited about this gun. Not sure why

I'm eyeing a sight upgrade for mine, and can only say that most experts will tell you the slide on your gun must be cut for dovetails a la a regular "Mk I" HP. The front sight is part of the gun and will be obliterated when this is done. And the rear cut will be done to match whatever sight you've chosen.

Cost of that is the only thing keeping me from being okay with it.

And taking out the disconnect will improve your trigger. Easy enough to do yourself.

Not sure about the recoil spring. I tried replacing the stock spring with a standard Wolff offering and it was entirely too long. Noticeably different. Created a severe bend in the middle of the spring once reassembled. So I put the stock spring back in and replaced just about everything else. Functionally, I still got a new gun out of that deal. Will likely clip a few coils off of that Wolff spring and go with it...

Even though their website says not to do this, I've found that a Sprinco recoil buffer works in the FEG High Powers. They probably don't want people who have the DA versions buying them in confusion.

Your Hi-Power looks just like my brother's Hi-Power; also Metalifed by Ron Mahovsky. His browning had some sot of problem with the original bluing and so he had hard chrome plated. He was surprised at the number of people who when they saw the gun thought it was now being made from stainless steel!

Mine, done up by Mahovsky in hard chrome. Pictured with my Astra A70.

Those are some nice-looking pistols... anytime I see things like that, I want to have a few of mine done too. The only thing that stops me is that I have quite a few that I'd like to do, and the price would be prohibitive for a large group.

Why quietly? Trying to avoid Imperial (wife) entanglement?:p

Here's a link to the new Turkish-made stainless (!) Regent HiPowers- for $550 with free shipping, personally I think that's a good deal.
Looking at an online auction...

There's a local shop that has now seems to post their used guns on auction. They have a few HP clones listed, at a reasonable price. They aren't including the phrase "Hi Power" in the title or description, so I'm guessing those won't show up in a casual search on that description. They also list a pretty high shipping cost, one that would most likely cause someone to back off on bidding... shipping + FFL would add a BIG chunk to the total.
But I contacted them and asked about local pickup- they responded that they do allow that, and if picked up in store, they also don't charge for the 4473. So: if I were to bid and win, and go pick it up. it's bid price + tax, NOT bid price + shipping+FFL.

The price is a good bit below what they tend to list in store. So I've got a bid on it, waiting to see if it will slip through
