Howdy folks,
After plenty of time looking and wanting, I finally bought another gun...well 2 actually. I'm still waiting confirmation as my FFL is out of town for a couple of days but upon his return, he's ordering for me, 1 PA-63 Hungarian, and a TT-33 Romanian. I'm looking around for ammo and holsters and whatnot and now I ask THR for some help with the PA-63 (since the TT-33 is not CA approved so it gets to stay with ma' dad).

I intend on using the PA-63 for my Summer Carry. I've got a few choices for holsters, so I can mix it up as nescessary...depending on my situation. My real question comes to ammunition. As a non-reloader I am at the mercy of the manufacturers. I've heard some chatter that with the 9x18mm is actually better with ball ammunition because the penetration is not too good even with Hornaday's XTP bullets. For those of you who carry with a PA-63, what do you use for your ammo and where do you get it?

Thanks

**Note; any references to carrying does not apply to me while I am in PRK or NV**

You will find a bit of hostility toward CC'ing a military-surplus pistols here on THR... although quite a few members do, with Stars, P-64s, PA-63s and such, even a few CZ-52s.

While I can't give you an answer on ammo choices, I'd refer you to the boards at www.p64resource.com. That board is specifically for the P-64 pistol, but it is also a PP derivative and uses the same 9x18 Makarov ammunition as your PA-63, so they'll be able to give you some good first-hand answers in short order.

Good luck and have fun!

I don't use the PA63 for concealed carry but I do keep one loaded and hidden in my garage as a sort of backup weapon. I find that the Silver Bear 95 grain JHP load is 100% reliable in this weapon and that's what I load it with.

Why would there be hostility toward CC of something like PA63??

I think they are the best bang for the buck on the market right now at $99 each.
I intend to order a pair pretty quick.

I load my 63 with 95 grain fmj's it isn't a reliability issue but the 9x18 and the .380 don't penetrate enought with HP's and even if they did expansion isn't going to be too impressive. I figure a FMJ in the right place will always do the job, and you have a better chance of hitting the right place if you have the extra penetration. I did see a few 100 gain loads out there and would like to try them out, and when I get around to it I want to start handloading for it because some countries load there 9x18 ammo much hotter then others, and most of the rounds making it here are farely tame. This way you can load them hot and get the most out of a great little gun.
