I bought one of these because it was cheap but I don't know much about them other than they are a Mak copy. Anybody else have them? Good, bad, indifferent?

I have one.

First, these are not a mak copy. If anything they are a walther copy. The only thing that I am aware of that a mak and a PA-63 have in common is the round they shoot.

Second, I love this little pistol. I have had no problems with it as of yet and it feeds, ejects, and eats whatever you put in it. The only thing I didn't like about it when i got it was the recoil. Recoil was very sharp and would hurt the web of my hand if I shot to many rounds. I did get a new recoil spring from makarov.com and a main/hammer spring to reduce the double action trigger pull to something that was accaptable.

clipse is correct, the PA63 is NOT a Makarov copy. It shoots the Makarov round, other than that they don't have much in common.

Jason, don't sweat the comments if that's what you were referring to... they certainly aren't aimed to be personal. We all like to point out each others misconceptions whenever we can. However, some employ different methods than others as you have just witnessed.
G-d knows I've been corrected a few times (even though I'm actually omniscient) :D We all have.

The only personal experience I've had with the PA-63 is from firing a friends who collects ex-Soviet block firearms.
The one I was shooting seemed to be more accurate than my IJ-70 (commercial Russian makarov with cheesy adjustable sights) until the sharp recoil spoiled that.
I feel the PA-63 would excel as a CCW pistol for someone on a budget. The crap we were feeding this particular pistol didn't affect the dependability a bit. It was also considerably lighter than my IJ-70, another virtue that lends itself to carry.

Accuracy and dependability aside, the recoil may be the only vice, as Clipse pointed out (common with any lightweight blowback pistol of .380acp or greater caliber).

Eventually, I'll buy either an inexpensive PA-63 or CZ-52 as a glovebox pistol for my Wagoneer (my camping/hunting and snowday vehicle), though that 7.62x25 just has a magnetism about it.

I carried a PA-63 on many a backpacking trip. Its the only auto loader I have that has never jammed.

It's not exactly a Walther copy, but its so close that you can replace the slide stop spring with one from a walther.

The alloy frame is a bit softer than I'd like it and you will see galling over time, but it seems like it stops at a certain point.

For a fixed barreled pistol recoil can be sharp, even in mine which is a .380. Lead bullets really make this thing kick.

Still, it even feeds hydashocks without a glitch, though you'll sometimes see the slide slow down, it has never failed to return to battery.

The only complaint I have is that in overall size, compared to my Commander its not really that small. The SMC version of the pistol is a true pocket gun, the PA-63 requires bigger pockets.

The RK-59 is the ULTIMATE of the genre, a true PPK instead of a PP. The 9x18 seems to have ALOT more punch than any .380 I've ever fired. Maybe the extra .005"diameter or maybe the 100fps+ , but it seems stronger. The FEG feed ramp is a straight shot instead of the Walther inclined plane, they learned that from the MAK. Trigger pull is OK ffor me, not quite in Walther class though. The sights, while small seem always to be close to registry with the few PA-63's I've seen. The aluminum grip is thick where it counts. This deal about recoil in PA-63 seems bogus to me. The RK-59 just starts to get a little fiesty with CORBON loads......
