OK, lately I've been wanting to replace my poor lost Hi-Power that I sold along time ago when I wanted a 1911 but didn't have the $$$ to buy it with out selling my FN-BHP first, but being neck deep in a FAL build, and having just purchased a Steyr S40 and a CZ 452, I decided to get one of the clones to save some cash.

I looked all over the net for info on which clone to buy, the Arcus just doesn't look as nice and the Argentines had that enamel or park finish, neither was what I wanted.

So today when I went to pick up my CZ 452 I found a very pretty FEG PJK-9HP, it was blued and shiny just like I wanted, it looks like it hasn't been shot much, and it's only blemish is a very small scratch on the right side frame just above the trigger. This is what I was looking for, a pretty blued pistol.

The slide had a pretty good fit, not sloppy, and the innards looked clean.

Oh and it has 2 13 rnd mags.

So he wanted $325 for it, I got him down to $300 and gave him $75 to put in on lay-away so I could pick it up in a couple weeks.

Does that price seem reasonable? I'm sure that functionally I might have been able to save a few bucks somewhere, but I wouldn't get the pretty blued pistol I wanted.

Good deal. The FEGs are becoming akin to hens teeth. Charles Daly/KBI has taken over the importation and Dan Wesson is assembling them. The FEGs are climbing in price. I offered my toystore $250.00 for a well used one. They put it back in the display case. The 13 round magazines have been going up in price but, I wonder about that now.

Good gun, the FEG. $300 seems a bit high. I paid $200 for mine, but it came with plastic grips and only 10 round magazines. The FEGs with wood grips sell for about $250 at gun shows now and 13 round mags can be had for $20-25. I've got a South African 17-round mag in my FEG. See if you can get it for $275.

Stephan, was yours a Blued pistol or an Enameled pistol? because I'm seen enameled for a bit less, but not a blued HP.

If this had been a few years back, I would have said you paid too much. Mine is a high luster blue that set me back $250 new (only b/c I had an FFL special order it so I had to pay shipping - I think I paid $225 for the gun and $25 for shipping). Now, after not seen one in quite some time, I think you did fairly well. If you're happy with it, that's what counts. Mine had a few rough spots, but was generally a good performer. I'm going to have the sights replaced as soon as I force myself to stop with the new aquisitions. The rear sight dovetail is non-standard, so it must be opened up. I'm going to have the front dovetailed at the same time. I'd kind of like to have the frame re-done in NP3 and have the finished product look like a browning practical (I doubt I'll do this though). The gun works fine as it, about the only improvement would be the aforementioned sights.

The barrel lug boke off of my FEG barrel!
I now have an Arcus that shoots better then the FEG and the action is much smoother too. I think you are right about the looks of the Arcus, but IMO the Arcu is a much better gun then the FEG.

My two favorite BHP clones are FEG's and Arcus's. The FEG Blueing, yes they are blued is very very nice and the FN made BHP's have an enamel coating on them.

The FEG for 300$ is too high. Hell thats dealer, almost anyway, on a CD HP and they are looking mighty fine.

I just got my Arcus back from the Triggerectomy Doctor and "PPRRRRRRR"......its nice. :D

Shoot well....................talk them down to as low as you can get.

I while ago I would have said that the price is about 50% too much, but the 9HPs are getting rarer. Talk 'em down as low as you can, but get it.

It's not perfect, but for the price, you can fix anything that may go wrong. Mine's shaped up to be a dandy pistol.

HMMM, so it seems that I may be paying about 30-50 bucks more than some of you think I could find it for, but I haven't seen them for that price, in fact the only one I can find at Gun Broker that is similar is this one

Here for $375, and that doesn't include shipping and the FFL fee.

I'll got look around today and see what I find, but I may be stuck since I already put it on lay-away, but they may let me cancell it today, or at least transfer the lay-away cash to another pistol.

Thanx for all your input guys

I realize prices differ from place to place, but I still see new ones for under $300 in my neck of the woods. (New FN MkIII's go for $550 give or take if you want to save your pennies a while longer.)

As mentioned earlier, the FEGs are getting rarer because they are no longer being imported. Instead their former importer, KBI, is having FEG parts assembled by Dan Wesson, to make the Charles Daly HP.

I don't remember the asking price for the CD HP, but if you were going to pay what they're asking (high $400s/low $500s) I'd just go with an FN or Browning.

I got my Browning MkIII for $550, which isn't much more than the CD is.

In my opinion, the old FEGs are way better than Charles Daly's offering. Of course, the best option is still the FN/Browning, but the selling point for FEGs were that they were several hundred dollars less... but now, the same thing with a pricetag similar to the Browning?

That's a no-brainer.

I'd say FEG if possible, if not - Browning or bust.

OK, I'm having one of my favorite local dealers (Actually the store isn't, but the girl that works there is :D ) check on ordering me one, she said that she would give it to me for a bit above Dealer cost, but when I told her the price for the pistol I put on lay-away she told me it's actually a good price, Feg's are getting harder to find and the price has gone up. She gonna check to see what she can do for me though.

I've both a FEG with the wood grips and an FM HiPower. The FEG is a better looker but the FM is a better shooter because of its lighter and crisper trigger.

Removing the magazine disconnect helped the FEG trigger, but its still poor compared to the pull of the FM.

The FMs now may or may not be as good as they were back pre-Brady, but a few years ago I helpd a friend clean the cosmo off a new one and it was like mine a very good shooter but not much to look at.

--wally.

The FM is the made in Argentina HiPower clone.
