Sorry about the confusing title. I got to thinking about the various future guns in science fiction and action movies, and video games. Specifically I started looking at what it would take to construct the shell of a rifle from Mass Effect and wrap it around a real firearm. After some consideration I realized this thing was ridiculously oversized, bloated, and completely user-unfriendly. I then started thinking more and realized that many fictional guns seem to be oversized or otherwise unwieldy for anyone but a super-human.

Thus the question: Are there any feasible features seen on guns in fictional universes that you would like to see incorporated into real guns?

Many of the 'guns' are real guns either tweaked with aluminum or plastic molding or, just a rare type arm, like a jap '14? or a Widley wolverine for battle star galatica

others are just fiction or even paintball guns...

I can't even think of what movies I saw it in first, but the Calico helical-feed (50/100 round!)guns already have a strange enough appearance to qualify.

Local company to me, once I have a few other "needs" filled, I'll be debating the economy of their .22 vs the fun of a 9mm pistol.

You mean to tell me that this wouldn't carry like a 642??

Is that a blue MagLite?

That thing looks like an ergonomic night mare. How do you shoulder it? Where's your cheek weld? Can a lefty even access the trigger?

Sad to say, but the DOD research for a new combat rifle has produced a rather poor prospect. The OICW (Objective Infantry Combat Weapon) has "something for everyone", and weighs in at about 18 pounds! The BAR in WWII weighed 20 pounds.

I really feel sorry for today's infantryman. He's loaded up with all the nerw "gimmicks", and his field load keeps getting heavier and heavier.

Missles, nets, flamethrower, freeze spray, homing bullets, and a bright, shiny red button.

A killer would have picked up the gun and immediately asked about the little red button...

i dont know....i think a lot of the blasters from star wars look like they'd be pretty user friendly...

..although i think the fact they were all built off of real life weapons may have something to do with it.....
