I’ve been in the market for a carbon fiber barreled 300 Win Mag. I’ve teetered back and forth between Christensen Arms, Seekins Havak (not CF, but very light), Fierce and a custom rifle. Jumped off a cliff today and ordered a Fierce Arms Carbon Rival. I feel like it was the best set of features for the money and the .5 MOA guarantee didn’t hurt. I could have gotten EVERYTHING I wanted with a custom rifle, but the local builders I’ve talked to are having issues getting some of the parts I wanted, so I ordered the Fierce. Patience is not my strong suit.

Next week I should be able to put together a pretty good comparison of most of the carbon fiber options out there and see what I like most. I’ve got a couple Springfield 2020 Waypoints, I’ll have the Fierce and I’ll be able to put my hands on a couple Christensens and a Savage Ultralight. Should make for a fun day at the range if not an apples to apples comparison because they will be chambered in drastically different cartridges. 6.5 CM, 308, 300 Win Mag, 280 AI and 28 Nosler will all be on the menu.

I am holding out for the 0.25 MOA Guarantee. Well OK, maybe that winning lotto ticket.

I sold a Browning X-Bolt HCLRM in 300 PRC to buy the Fierce. I’ve seen some mixed reviews, but I’ve seen a lot more positive than negative, so I decided to take a chance. I really wanted a shorter, lighter rifle than the X-Bolt and I’ve got another rifle chambered in 300 Win Mag, so I’ve got a pretty good pile of 300 Win Mag ammo.

You made a great choice. When i was looking for my new 308 I did a bunch of research and too many guys were having problems with the Christensen rifles for me to feel comfortable. Fierce didn't make what I wanted in 308, so I went custom.

Those Fierce rifles are really really nice though.

Picked up my Carbon Rival today. Initial impressions are fairly positive. Action is smooth. Bix N Andy trigger is good. Finish seems pretty decent, but not excellent. Stock is going to have to be replaced assuming the rifle shoots up to expectations. Overall length is too short which is an easy fix with shims, but the pistol grip is terribly short. I’ll try to shoot it tomorrow and see if it holds up to expectations. No proof target included with the rifle, so no idea how it shot leaving the factory. Got my Fierce out to the range today and initial impressions are pretty positive. First three rounds after bore sighting were Remington Core Lokt 180 grain stuff that I keep around for initial zeroing. Those three rounds were right around 1 MOA, and honestly, I may have been the limiting factor. I’ve got a nagging shoulder injury and as much as I have not wanted to admit it, it has affected my shooting ability. I just don’t have it right now. Everything was under 1 MOA, but nothing approached the .5 MOA guarantee, but if I’m honest with myself, the rifle is probably perfectly capable.

Recoil is negligible with the TBAC Ultra 9 on the end. The Bix N Andy trigger is great. Overall, I think I am really going to like this rifle and I think I will find it easily lives up to the accuracy guarantee once I get my shoulder squared away and fix a couple of minor issues I have with it.

The first issue is easily remedied. I’ve got to get some stock spacers ordered and lengthen this stock. It’s just too short and no matter how I adjust and pull the rifle into my shoulder, there’s some left and right wiggle and it showed up in some of my groups. Between the short stock and my bum shoulder I never felt solid behind the Fierce today.

Second issue is also easily changed. This freaking bolt knob is a cheese grater!!! I don’t know who was in charge of this design, but it’s ridiculous. My first knuckle on my trigger finger got chewed on a little and I was constantly adjusting my grip and triggers squeeze technique to avoid getting smacked and this probably didn’t help with accuracy. 681A443E-7728-499B-8B8D-406FB48B40C0.jpeg BEBD125A-9453-464F-B7F2-31190BC531C4.jpeg

I’m not making excuses for the rifle not holding up to the guarantee, I’ve just been shooting long enough yo know when I’m having a bad day. I also shot my Waypoint 308 today and it is a known quantity which I also didn’t manage to shoot much better than 1 MOA.

I’ll get the stock spacers ordered this week and give her hell again next week after another shoulder injection.
