Yesterday, four friends came out (including THR's own Kamicosmos) to shoot for a bit. We shot from 2pm---dark.

It was a great day...warmed up into the high 50's w/fairly light wind (for most the day). We shot a number of pretty nice guns:
AR-50
AR-10
AR-15(s)
S&W 500 4"
S&W 500 10+" w/Luepold scope
S&W 29-5
S&W 28-2
S&W 25-5 .45 Colt
S&W 327
S&W 342
S&W 686
Ruger SP-101
CZ-97B
Taurus .357 (6-8" barrel)
Springfield Model 1911 Mil-Spec
Kimber 1911
H&K Tactical (2)
Remington 700 Heavy barrel .308
etc...

Some of the best moments came when we brought the AR-50 back to life near dark...shooting that beast at dusk is fun! We got some great vid. clips of the shooter, the blast & and impact/sparks on the steel plate (2"+ thick hard plate)

OMG! It's a terrorist sniper assault weapon used ONLY for killing cops and dealing drugs! (especially because .50bmg has never been used in a crime)...
:what: :what: :what:
But uh, that s&w 500 is fine because it's just a revolver... and I know from watching my kids play counterstrike that those aren't good for anything.

:banghead: :banghead:

/sarcasm off

We considered shooting down some satellites with the Big 50, but figured there's enough terrorists doing that all ready, or so they say...

The AR50 wasn't bad on recoil. Just a mild shove in the shoulder, and a whole lotta blast! We were surprised and impressed at the fireworks display of the bullet exploding/vaporizing after the sun went down!

The 500s...the Hunter model isn't bad to shoot. It weighs a ton. The 4" 'snubbie' though. That hurts, not pleasant at all. My palm hurt for a couple hours after a cylinder full of 385 grain loads. You could feel the heat during the recoil. Impressive to watch, and I'm glad I got the chance to shoot it, but I don't think I'll be adding one to my collection anytime soon!

(BTW, that's me there in the pic with the AR50. Yeah, I know....gotta keep the ladies back with a stick...)

WOW! Looks like it was a lot of fun. That was one very nice shooting area. Is it someone's personal range? That is the kind of range that I would love to shoot at.

I just need to buy some land :banghead:

P95Carry,
The large plate (the only rifle plate) is a bolt-on cutting edge for a HUGE rock quarry wheeled loader....about a 10 yard machine. I grabbed six of these prior to scrapping by the company I work for...It takes three of us to hang one.

DWS1117,
Yes, it's about 250 yards east of my house. We have a farm ajoining the house and we've put this range in over a number of years. It's going to be even better when we get the new benches in this spring...one at 50 and one at 100yds.
They will be solid concrete ambi. benches.

Thanks for the kind remarks...you get up to KC, bring your 9 guns and we'll do some shoot'n!

Happy New Year!!

Bob

Woo!
AR-50s rock. You'd be suprised at how little they kick (muzzle break helps). I've shot .270s that hurt more.

mbs357,
AR-50's DO rock! It was my second 50 BMG gun (to shoot, not own) The owner "stole" this one at a local gunshow....$2k Out-the-door private sale.
Makes the gun even better.

NavajoNPaleFace,
We did have some of that "stuff" on the gorund a while back, but it's been gone for quite a while (month anyway). What you see in the range photo is "chat"...I had some left over form another project and a friend spread it on the range for me...it beats the MUD!!

Hey, it's New Year's Eve....

Bob
