went by the lgs after a range session and saw a RIA 5.0E. i never had a chance to see the first version which i was quite interested in around a $1000. the gun looks nice. it does have a huge RIA5.0E at the side. racking the slide is smooth. the trigger feels fairly light but i wouldn't call the reset short. more like medium. finish was great. not so sure about the grip, felt ok in the hand but the grip panels are flat without any significant palm swell( like a shadow 2). the angle of the trigger finger given where you put the web of your hand is similar to shooting a revolver with the web of the hand at the top of the backstrap. i would never consider buying one at close to 2k but it was priced at 1600 which piqued my interest given the square barrel, hidden hammer and just being different.
the takedown is complicated from what I've seen.
anyone with real experience with one? i am googling ria 5.0E issues/problems and haven't gotten any hits but that may just be due to not having enough samples in people's hands. 20240328_162752_copy_3024x1701.jpg

Maybe it's just me, but for some reason I get a bit of a Star Megastar 'vibe' from the lines on the 5.0. They don't have anything in common except perhaps scale, but I still can't not see it.

That's a good thing -- I wanted a Megastar when they came out, but then Star suddenly went bust.

The 5.0 looks like a lot of pistol for 9x19. Like you, I'd want to shoot one before forming any definite opinions about a new $1K handgun.

it does look big but so does my shadow 2. the grip seems long for a 17 rd magazine. the original seems to bob down as the slide returns to battery in slo mo. i suspect that may be the reason behind the lightening cuts which are well done.

Love mine. I’ve had it a while. It’s actually not any bigger than a 1911. It’s also thin and not real heavy.

Very cool design

any issues/complaints with your gun?
is it difficult to field strip?

It looks good although it would be better without such a huge billboard. I didn't even know they made anything like that. I haven't been browsing firearms in quite sometime though.

No issues to report. I’ve only had it to the range once so far though. I’ve had it a couple months. It’s a quality pistol for sure.

The billboard doesn’t bother me at all, honestly. If it didn’t have a rail or slide cuts, than maybe the billboard would bother me, but it’s not really meant to look clean.

MSRP is $2000, actually. Street price is $16-$1800.

It’s absolutely nothing like a Megastar and it’s really not all that big. It’s just a full size 9mm. Many of my competition 9mms are both bigger and much heavier than the 5.0E

it's funny i was reading up on the gun online and came across a well written review on another forum. then i came across the line "As some here probably know, I prefer high quality handguns." this was before i scrolled down into the pics. I immediately looked up who the poster was and lo and behold it was you, spelled slightly different. You certainly are the one i think of when i hear about having high quality guns. how is the field strip? i didn't look for it but does the rear sight have a set screw? saw roy huntingtons's sample was shooting to the left.

bac1023 is my forum name and was here initially as well. Lost my account somehow many years ago.

Honestly, I ran a rope through the barrel, but I have yet to field strip it. I own some super exotic pistols, so I’m not overly concerned about the complexity of this one.

I did not notice the gun shooting to the left. It shoots very flat. Comparable guns from that standpoint would be a Hudson or Daniel H9 and an AFS Strike One. The bore is very low.

i just watched a video on the takedown of the old one without the recommended bench vise to assist with the recommended process. it was hard. requires 2 small allen keys or punch, a rubber grommet or similar. they mentioned something about doing some minor engineering changes to assist with takedown in the new one. I'm curious to see how the new one goes. here i am thinking reassembling a hard fit 1911 with a full length dustcover with a gi length recoil spring guide was tough... that one was easily fixed with a FLGR.

i really think it's a cool gun but so far the videos i've seen shows 4 inch benched groups at 25 yrds and shooting lower than point of aim for some people with the irons. i hope that was the shooter and not the gun.

as i am writing this, i realize i really probably should hold off on considering the purchase. i already had my lead in with the wife. " hey the company is from your hometown but built in the US..."
