Finger grooves or not?

In my relatively limited experience shooting pistols, I've found that, in general, I prefer straight grips rather than those with finger grooves. I've shot both types. Occasionally a pistol will have grooves that match my fingers pretty well, but more often than not, finger grooves seem to prohibit my obtaining a natural grip. I fired my first Glock, a gen. 1 variety with the straight grip. It was a fantastic weapon, but all of the new Glocks have finger grooves.

What is your preference?

Finger groove grips either feel good or they don't. If a set fits you, you might like it: If a set doesn't fit you, you probably wont like it. I currently have a set on a 1911 that I kinda like, and a set on a Buckmark that are getting yanked back off.

Why ain't there a $0.02 smilie?!?

It almost seems that a manufacturer is limiting their market by using finger grooves. A straight grip would fit more hands than a grooved grip would. Wouldn't it?

In general I like finger groove grips and usually never have a problem with them. I usually have more rubber or flexible finger groove grips than wood ones though. I have never had a problem with either material though.

FWIW, I've never had an issue with the finger grooves on my old Glock 19 or my current Glock 26. My S&W 6906 doesn't have finger grooves, and I don't have an issue with that, either.

I hated the finger grooves on my G36, so I fixed that problem. Sent it to Robar and had them removed. Felt like a totally different pistol when I got it back. My Buck Mark Practical has grooves but they are bigger and fit better.

I always laugh when I hear of someone spending $70-100 to ship a Glock, and then pay whatever the grip burner's fee is, and invariably take a resale value hit, just to wind up with a normal feeling pistol that could have been had from a variety of manufacturers for a lot less than the new inflated total for a Glock.

I can cope with almost anything, but generally I prefer no finger grooves because they don't fit everybody equally well and are unnecessary in any case.

You can also get an overgrip with grooves and slide it to fit your hand. Bicycle inner tubes, skateboard tape, friction tape, build up a palm swell, replacement grips, wrap arounds, etc, all do the same thing. Provide a better purchase for your hand. My LCP works a lot better for me with a little slip on over grip with a little finger groove. Some might say it makes it less concealable.

I've yet to find any set of pronounced finger grooves what match my non-standard hand. The grooves on my PPS are minimal and don't bother me, but they could go away and I'd probably be just as happy.

Nothing trumps ergonomics for handguns, so I don't buy guns that don't make my hand happy.

Can the Block groove removal (actually a hump removal, right?) be done with basic home tools? Or is there an outfit in (or near) Ohio that does it?

I hate finger grooves. Especially on glocks with their already blocky grip feel. Doesn't stop me from buying them or shooting well with them but...

I love finger grooves when they fit my fingers, and hate them when they don't.
Simple.

Yea, they're okay when they fit. I have relatively long, slender fingers, so many grooves are too large. I don't like my fingers to be separated. My P-22 actually fits pretty well as far as the grooves go. If the grooves don't fit though, it's like having a rock in your shoe.

For GLOCKs, I like them. They fit me on the G21. They don't fit me on the G26 or the G19. But they aren't so far off that they really bother me like a rock in my shoe. And all else aside, the kind of grooves that are on the GLOCKs are much easier to remove than to add, later.

Resale value? 1. Why would you sell a perfectly good gun? You'll just regret it later. :) 2. Most people don't lose any value on GLOCKs for ATTRACTIVE grip mods. It's like adding night sights. The resale usually goes up or at least stays the same.

I like them on my G19 and everything I have with a Hogue (SP101, 629, and Defender) all feel great in my hand. My favorite, so far, is the Defender. Pretty much everything everyone says (positive) about Colts is absolutely true. I'm very happy to be a member of that particular club.

Finger grooves are the reason I dont own a Glock 26. I have really big hands, and fat fingers. The first finger groove under the trigger guard hits me right in the middle of the middle finger.

You are in luck. Bowie Tactical is in Ohio. I believe they are one of the first (if not the first) to offer the Glock grip modification.

Thanks!

I've been considering a cheap used Block to go with my sub2000, if the Gen 4 grip is still a no-go.
With that place in-state I might jump on the next beater Block19 I come across, anyone actually had their finger humps removed by Bowie?

Anyone here removed their Glock's finger grooves ? I have heard of a few people using a file to remove the grooves, then using light sand paper to smooth out the file marks on the front strap.

I have thought about trying it out on one of my glocks.

Finger grooves or not, doesn't really bother me to be honest - probably have a slight preference for not, but certainly won't go to the trouble of getting rid of them off my glock - as has already been said, I can't get my head round people who send their glocks away to have them smoothed off or have a grip reduction done....why not just buy a different brand of pistol in that case.

Kwanger,

I sent my G21SF off to have the grip reduction done. The reason I didn't just go to another brand is because I like the Glock system, just wanted a more "1911-like" grip angle.
I consider it similar to other people customizing their 1911s (grip scales, front straps, MSHs, and Beavertails) to get them where they want them. Its just preference.
