I know the safety works differently than a 1911, I believe the safety lifts the hammer off the sear and blocks it. Does anyone in the forum carry a Firestar cocked and locked? One of my employees wants a .40 S&W Firestar after seeing mine, and asked how you would carry it. Thanks,

I had a .40 Firestar and I always carried it cocked and locked. I really liked it and it worked well for me at the time. I have considered getting another and if I did I would carry it cocked and locked again.

I carry (CCW) a M43 9mm X 19 Cocked and locked. The firestars are loosely based on the 1911 system and are just as safe as the 1911's cocked and locked.

I have an Astra A-70, also loosely based on the 1911...I carry it cocked and locked even though it has no grip safety. I was a little nervous at first, I carried it for three days unloaded...no mishaps.

The safety is different, as are all the internals in the Stars, they only look similar on the outside. I guess it gets down to whether or not the safety can come off accidentally more than on a 1911. The safety lifts the hammer off the sear as I mentioned, which seems very safe to me, but there is no grip safety. I told the employee who wants to carry one to get a holster with a strap over the hammer. I just wondered if anyone had ever had heard that it wasn't safe compared to a 1911. I sure like my .40, a great weapon, but I don't carry it. These weapons also have a firing pin block that works off the trigger, for what it's worth.

I carry my M43 in a Kramer Leather IWB holster that is form fitted to the weapon. That includes an indent in the horse hide for the thumb safety in the on position. Have never had it come off when carrying...You are correct. Unless the trigger is pulled with the safety off the hammer will not find the firing pin. The hammer will , instead, end up on the half cock notch...Not to mention the hammer/firing pin block...
