A few years ago I spent about... 80 dollars out of paycheck to purchase a bunch of fireworks of different kinds.

My wife complained bitterly about wasting money, blowing up money and loss of ability to put that money to better use etc etc etc etc.

That was about... 6 years ago.

My defense at the time to her was I never fired fireworks in my life and would be sorry if I missed the oppertunity at least once.

The bedroom door slammed in my face, house temperature dropped 40 degrees and the summer turned into tundra chill. So much for wife. So much for me.

So I fired em off and was done with it.

After a time I had a pile of trash to dispose of.

Years later.... we became gun owners.

Thinking on it, it occured to me that wife is motivated to go with me to the range and blow off a dollar and change with each pump of her shotgun, plus my shotgun and a few clips out of handgun for each of us.

We added up the last few shoots and realized at the current rate we are blowing off... 300 dollars in bangbang.

I have not said anything to the spouse yet.

But we are coming up once again to fireworks season. Should I purchase some really big artillery boomers this year or no?

Having been married before, I would be sure to keep it that way. I would suggest buying fireworks, but do NOT make the connection of them wasting money to wasting money by shooting.

Just today, LOML shot about 50 rounds out of my .38 J-frame (which looks like it will soon become hers), but I reloaded them at about 8 cents a round, so I got off cheap. If I were you, I'd keep my mouth shut and spend the fireworks money on ammo. The real shame about fireworks (besides the cost) is the waste of good gunpowder! At least you could blow a stump or something.

The two shouldn't be equated.....while firing guns can be an exercise in personal skill, fireworks are a once a year visual pleasure with a boom. Light up the night sky and have a great time.

Casually ask her how she feels about shooting some fireworks this year. You will then have your answer. Be prepared to live with it, and whatever you do, don't equate it to shooting, or there may be two (three) things you won't be doing for a while. :)

Thanks fellas I think no fireworks this year, the neighbors has some artillery he shoots every year.

Or, or, or, or...

Combine the two! Order in some Tannerite (or make your own), pack them in small plastic zip lock bags, and tape them to sporting clays. They're not as pretty as fireworks, but the resulting double boom sure is fun!

The main question on THR should also be whether a typical Yugo SKS can launch any of those cherry bombs etc very far with the grenade launcher?

Not with my Norinco.

always remember that the fireworks are for the kids, adopt some if you have to. You know that children these days grow up deprived of the simple pleasure we had when we were young...... like fireworks

Who said anyone has grown up?

Ive had decades of experience being a kid.

To be honest, that one time was more than enough for me.

Some were actually pretty durn good.

'sides the USAF likes to fly not far higher than some of the larger works in area. They probably stand down or something on the 4th to celebrate.

I once saw someone set off a one of those small fountain fireworks by shooting it with a mk II. Probably a freak incident that it actually touched the thing off but still it doesn't hurt to try.

Might I suggest going to Wal-Mart and buying those 100 packs of Winchester for $22?

KingYaba, Wally = fail when it comes to ammuntion the way we want em.

So it's either a gun shop or internet for us. Usually we dont have to pay taxes, and occasionally enjoy free shipping.

A little insanity is good, clears out the cobwebs from time to time. Just keep the things pointed away from houses.

It will start shooting fireworks about a week prior to the 4th and continue for about 6 weeks after the 4th until everyone has either took down the local fireworks tents and went away or spent all thier money.

Money was difficult 6 years ago, now we think nothing of a 100 dollar slug/handgun order shipped UPS or whatever.

Armature's!!!

for a real thrill go get a one use class B license from the ATF and you can legally buy the big stuff to play with, but be careful this stuff can be deadly!!!!!

I do not see the connection between spending money on shooting and spending money on fireworks. Anyway, have fun and good luck with fooling your wife.

No fooling the wife... the money situation was bad 6 years ago.

Now we are ahead of the debts and stock piling. Nothing like a bit of cash to make one feel... frisky on holiday.

We talked about it and we will let the neighbors do the firing of thier money and fireworks. Good enough for us.

Some folks even get in some outdoor shoots in as well so we keep an ear out as well.

My friend used to make his own mortars, pretty amazing stuff. Sometimes his 'formula' was a bit off and the stars would stay lit all the way to the ground. Fortunately we had rain the previous night so the grass was soaked.
