Picked her up yesterday after having her on layaway, I plan on throwing her a big birthday party in a year.

I will be sending off for her papers soon. She is in fine mechanical condition, too bad about the finish wear. Actually the pictures are not very flattering, sitting here it looks much better in natural light.

Wow that's a great way to start with your first Colt 1911! And with plenty of time before its 100th birthday too. Enjoy.

would it be bad manners to ask how much that cost you? I've always loved 1911's never personally owned one though. The first one I ever shot was an old one like that, it was awesome. One of these day's I would like to get one.

Congrats on the purchase, it's a beauty

Wow, that's an early Colt. It even has the old rounded rear sight, short hammer spur, and squared off thumb safety.

Congrats.

Anything under serial number 5000 costs plenty, I will not say what I paid but I did pay full retail pretty much for the pleasure of ownership. Look at it this way:
A They will never make any more from 1913
B The historical significance is worth more than the money
C The value should go up
D It's still functional-completely
E I could always sell it and buy a Wilson or whatever if I thought I needed one, I have plenty of other combat handguns.
