SWMBO and I went to one of the indoor ranges in the area today to get in a little time with her 9mm and (hopefully) with the newish P225 and PCR today. She's got a PT111 that is wholly adequate for her desires and needs, and to her credit, she saw me eyeballing one and decided that two would be better about 5 years ago.

Since then, I've moved from daily carry with a BHP to a P229. The PT111 was, for me, a potential BUG or for very light duty summer carry. I've seldom carried mine, but she does hers occasionally.

Over the years I've tried to put her hands around various 'nicer' pistols...P245s, P239, the PCR, my Beloved BHP (which she loves, to my horror), even an assortment of 1911's, as she grew up shooting her Dad's. She'd never found a 1911 that she really was 'comfortable' with as a CCW piece...until today.

She'd gotten frustrated with her Taurus after a couple of hundred rounds. The trigger was working against her, I guess and she was pulling it too hard and dropping her POI significantly. I was wrapping things up with the P225 when she went out off the range and browsed the rental counter and the retail area while I paid us out at the counter. I went over to her and found she was looking at double-stack jobs and complaining that they 'were all too large for her hands'. She was moving down the row eliminating all the 'big handles' but stopped in front of the last case. Inside was an Officer sized 1911. I could hear the wheels working, so I acted quickly and turned her to the retail area, grabbed one of the gun guys, and he popped one in her hands. She was immediately impressed with the size and weight, but that one paled next to a Springfield Micro Compact she picked up next.

Now, she's no wuss when it comes to recoil. I did insist she try out one before she made her mind up, so we hustled back to the booth with the rental model and a box of 230 grain ball. The first mag full sold her. She turned around and grinned at me like the proverbial possum. She knocked the whole fifty rounds out in nothing flat and soon had most of the guys from the surrounding lanes watching her rip the center out of the targets at 7 meters. Finished with that, she went back to see the Micro and after a brief discourse about Christmas, birthday, and 'just because', out came the checkbook.

It's what she's wanted all along. Dang if she's not going to cause me to visit the range with her every weekend now so she can break it in. Of course, it also means I'm going to end up putting the P220 in my holster and leaving the P229 in the safe a little.
We met the oldest kid and his GF for dinner afterwards. They're wanting to get their CHL's (shhh...Christmas is coming) soon and when they saw it they were as taken with it as SWMBO is.

I wonder if I can get a quantity discount? Guess I'd better start gearing up to reload 45ACP now. Nonetheless, I'm proud of her. She tried them out and got exactly what she wanted and what fits.

Regards,
Rabbit.

Excellent. Water Rabbit, that's a great tale -- and it's exactly how things "oughtta be" done. Great job!

Congrats to your wife on her new purchase. May they spend many happy hours together.
