I have a Browning .30-06 made by FN way back when, it's basicly a Mauser action, to which I need to mount a scope. I have Weaver rings and bases, which according to Weaver are the correct ones (45 and 46 are the numbers for the bases), but they aren't. When mounted with a straight 1" round bar, the front base sits about 3/64" above where it should.
I'm looking for suggestions on what rings and bases to use on the rifle, the Weavers are okay, but I'm looking for something more streamlined and better, but not quite polished Conetrol prices. It's a classic bolt action made in '69, the stock is decent walnut, refinished in nice handrubbed oil and the blueing is typical polished deep blue. I plan on mounting a Leupold 4x scope on the rifle. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.
