Was watching sportsmans television with my dad last night and the shooters were doing an accuracy and handleing comparison of the FN "C" and the FN SCAR, neither me or my dad had ever seen or heard of this rifle before, the host was explaining the differences and commonalities between it and the .30 cal carbine, the M4 and the SCAR, it looks like an FN/FAL style stock and grip and it appears to take standard A.R./M4 mags, do any of you know anything about this rifle?

FNC

Friend of mone has a full auto version. (licensed dealer for machine guns)
It throws brass a loooong way. Fun to watch the brass fly.

Some consider the SCAR to be the decedent of the FNC but as similar as they are there are also a number of things quite different about them.

There are lots of full auto FNC sears on the market and they are fairly inexpensive at around $3,000. An FNC rifle is a bit more rare as not many were imported before the ban but they can be found for around $3,000. Then you need to have the gun modified a bit to accept the sear which will cost you probably $500 or so. In the end you can have a full auto FNC for around $6,500-$7,000 which is cheap in the full auto world.

The FNC's real claim to fame was that Al Pacino used one in the movie Heat during the bank robbery scene.

I had the chance to buy a mint condition FNC Para a few weeks ago for $2,500 at my local shop but I passed up on it because I just don't have the money right now. I was pretty bummed out about it because an FNC has been on my "must buy someday" list for years and to find a mint condition one for under $3k is a pretty rare find.

FNC is a damn fine rifle. It came out as one of the best NATO rifles in the artic tests some time ago.
As already mentione it got cool points in the movie "Heat".:D

That's too bad nwilliams, I always enjoy seeing your awesome photos of awesome guns.:)

Thanks for the information

My dad was thinking it looked interesting enough that he wanted to see/handle one, but at $2,500-$3,000 I am sure he will lose interest pretty much immediately. I personally think if a guy could get the full auto sear and for under $7,000 have a full auto rifle that shoots 5.56 and accepts A.R./M4 mags, it would be more desireable than more expensive Class III guns.

Yep, they seem to be a bargain of the full auto world compared to, say, a M16. You could get a ruger AC556 for around the same coin but the FNC is pretty cool. A gas piston, full auto 5.56.
