dkk73, you make some valid points, but there is still no reason to slap the same insignia on a doctor/dentist as a line officer. I spent 6 years in the USN, and without fail, the medical corps were professional and polite, but they still have no reason to be presented as officers.
This incident is an even bigger embarrassment to the .mil when they shooter is presented as "Major ____". It questions the credibility and reliability of other officers who actually lead men and perform in command roles.
