There have been a couple of threads here on them (click the search button up in the top right part of the window).
Its my understanding that the trigger sucks.
I still think they should make a .22 version of this gun and that it would sell like hotcakes!
Frankly I think the gun is seriously overpriced (I've heard prices up to $3K)

The gun is legal for you to own ... its the AP ammo thats illegal. There is someone (I think its Winchester) thats making a non AP version of the round for civilian use.
Frankly I think the gun is seriously overpriced (I've heard prices up to $3K)

I saw two in a Gun Shop yesterday and was told by the owner that they were LEO restricted. Funny thing was, he has standard fmj ammo and the mag's they came with were only ten shot cap. I asked him about this and he told me it didnt matter they were LEO restricted gun's. He was a bit buisy with real customers so I didnt push it; but I know he is the owner and also a class III dealer with a larg stock of class III stuff. In other words, he's not an idiot, or just some uninformed clerk. The Place is Big Bore Firearms in PHX AZ. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they are restriced. Why? I have no clue...FN must really like us typical Joe shooter types I guess????????

Guy wanted $4,000 a piece for them. If you had cash and were seriouse he would let you pick them up....I wasnt/I didnt. So I could not tell you if they were LEO restricted mag's or what. He had no ammo. I'm still puzzled over that. Just as I'm puzzeld over why the ones I saw yesterday were resrtricted?????????????:banghead:

The FN Five Seven is LEO and Military sales only. It's ability to
punch through body armor has won it that designation from the ATF.

This is untrue. I , in person, saw two at the last local gunshow, for sale to anyone, with the Winchester SP ammo. I was told that it is FNs stance to sell to LE and Military only, but there are no laws restricting its sale to civilians, FN just wont do it directly.

Hmmmm....
It's an interesting round design. There is an alternative though, should you wish to persue such. That being the .223 Timbs used from a CZ52.
If the desire is to be able to defeat a threat(read, vest wearing perp of your choice) that is encased in a soft ballistic protection enclosure(no plates), then the standard 7.62x25mm round can do the job. The .223 Timbs just adds that little bit extra "uniqueness" to the mix.
There's some info out there on this combo and a CZ52 is a LOT cheaper than a FN Five-Seven.
Then again, the 5.7 Johnson can do basically the same as the FN round, esp. if judiciously loaded with readily available components. The cost of this "option" would be in coming up with a pistol/carbine combo for the somewhat longer OAL of the round(5.7 Johnson).
Some nice what-ifs though!

Just what I always wanted: a butt-ugly, plastic pistol that fires ten shots of .22 Mag-like softpoints.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to find a Grendel P-30 and only put ten rounds in the mag?

As much as I love FN stuff there's just something about it that makes it look like the love child of a Savage M1917 and a Rubbermaid Sandwich Saver.

I confess to thinking that...
if it isn't packing the 5.7mm AP, then what's the point?
The pistol was only made as a sidearm platform for the round, to complement the P90, no?

Wildalaska -- Davidsons' has them for US$ 773.14 for dealers, for IOM.

Shrug, I think it's beautiful in it's own right, but I like Glocks, ARs, and synthetic-stocked bolt rifles. Don't much go in for the whole 'blued and walnut' thing, though it has it's place. (kinda just says "wow, look at me, I rust and swell easially")
Anyway, I've called FN about this.
FN's policy, which they ask (but aparently don't strictly enforce) their dealers to follow is the following:
"We will only sell the FiveSeven IOM, with 10 round mags, to Peace Officers that make the request on department letterhead."
Note however that there is absolutely NO BATF restrictions on the pistol itself. Of any itteration ('military' DAO, the Single-action 'tactical' model, and the IOM model with serrated tac rail.)
And also note that Winchester and FN both offer a hollowpoint 'training' round that has been ruled 'sporting' by the BATF, and legal for civilian sale. Infact, I have a box (just to see if it would come to CA.) Note also that this '22' round carries ~340lb/ft of muzzle energy, is moving 2100fps, and will still defeat IIa body armor, despite it's 'non-AP' design.
Lastly, with 10-round magazines, the pistol is actually useable. Since the design is new, there are no pre-94 standard-cap 20 rounders, so BE-WARE! (hopefully come September this will mean absolutely buttkiss)
I can't get one, because the PRK has a cute little 'list of approved drop-tested handguns' that they insist I buy exclusively for new sales.
My only option is to find a kind soul who already has one, has MOVED into the state, and then wishes to sell to me via Private Party Transfer. Needless to say, I haven't found that guy yet.
