At $800 you got a real bargain. A few years ago, they were $1,100 most places, more in many. Even now Gander Mountain sells them for $1,199 (though Gander gets pricey on some things).

already own several guns..over 14. its just i am looking for a novelty gun like a desert eagle or something most people dont have. i own a 9mm, 2 45's, and several others.

Then sigbusa is correct, the 5-7 is a good choice!

really then where did you get a box of 50 blue tipped 57 bullets for 18.00 a box? yeah if you buy it by the bulk its cheaper.... so dont go tell me i dont know what i am talking about your just being sarcastic cuz those guns are overpriced junk and the ammo is harder to find then a .45

it fires like a .17HMR semi-auto pistol the bullet is so small for its price.

If you were in North Georgia you could buy it for $21 a box and there is so much of it around you'd be tripping over it.

I wonder why so much of it is around?

It's simple. There are only two guns that shoot it...no, there are three including the AR 15 upper. How many .45's are there out there?

There will be other 5.7 pistols. I know that for a fact.

You do? You know, the round is too long to fit in conventional 9mm frames. It may even be too long for 10mm autos (the OAL for the 10mm is 32mm, whereas 5.7 goes to 40mm). Therefore, entirely new frames might have to be designed to fire the round. Which company do you know for a fact is producing new frames for the round?

It matters little how many guns are chambered for a round, though. Demand, as mentioned, demand, is what drives availability. Demand is not high enough to cause an increase in prices or a decrease in supply.

What is the OAL of the .45 ACP? I wonder if it is close enough to be able to make a 5.7X28 slide. :-/

BTW, I have one (a Five Seven). GREAT gun, and does have a purpose. Its ballistics are quite adequate to do damage, even the "civilian rounds", and at 20 rounds in a magazine (30 if you have the CMMG mod), that is a LOT of firepower. Remember, people are killed with .22lr so there is no question that the 5.7X28 is going to do the job, if needed (and hopefully won't be, obviously).

OAL of 45acp ball is 32.3mm, which is still considerably shorter than the 40mm of 5.7. The Desert Eagle, ironically, would be a platform that could chamber it.

Sorry, I am not at liberty to disclose the name of the company. Do not assume that they are using an existing frame. Thankfully some are capable of thinking outside of the envelope.

I happily think outside that envelope. I do so all the time. Check my signature. But to start with an entirely new frame is an expensive undertaking and so is not taken lightly. It would be interesting to see some more innovation.

Yes, it is a very expensive proposition. I'm sure that FN found that out for themselves.

I lobbied for Kel-Tec to bring out the PLR in 5.7 but every one made in .223 was sold!!, so they had no interest :cuss:- what a sweet combo the PLR is a beast in .223 -but the 5.7 would be easy to control, and have great accuracy.

57

I bought 250 rounds on sale from midway last year @ around $18.32 a box (includes shipping) .... it always comes down to the 1911 die hards.

Lets face it to some people any pistol that is not metal, holds more than seven rounds and is built on anything other than a 1911 frame is junk....it all comes down to how good of a shot you are, me I'm not very good so I have pistols that hold a lot of rounds...btw why is it that if you can find a lot of 57 ammo thats bad but if you can find a lot of 45 ammo thats good...hummmmm

Bushyguy- Your claims are laughable. It's obvious you haven't done any research before hitting the "Post" button. Thanks for giving me a silent laugh on your account. :)

Ash- I was going to buy a FiveseveN pistol when they came out, hoping they went down in price from $700. The only ones I've seen in the $1k+ has been first through third versions of the Gen1 model. The REAL non-civilian versions that were owned by collectors. And these usually came with holsters.

I just laugh at anything over $800 now. You can find them for less if you try.

And I'm sure 5.7 ammo is a little more available now that re-loaders have confirmed repeatedly that it can be reloaded for even more fun. :)
