Ammo is less than 35 cents a rd if you buy in case lots (appx $17/box of 50), cheaper than much .223 or quality handgun ammo.

The 5.7x28 FN round (and the 4.6x30 HK) were designed to penetrate CRISAT body armour out to at least 150 metres, while inflicting a lethal wound behind it. Obviously, it's not a big cartridge and will not be a reliable one-shot stopper (CNS besides) but it's only intended to replace the 9x19 full-jacket ball rounds, which are not great stoppers themselves. It does have the advantages of light weight, low recoil and large ammo capacity, which makes it easier to shoot with and must put up the hit probability compared with a more powerful round.

The pic below is from the article on PDWs on my website. It shows (from top to bottom) the 4.6x30, 5.7x28, 9x19 and .45 ACP:

Incidentally, you can now buy softpoint 5.7mm ammo for civilian purposes. This means that there would be no point in banning the guns, any more than banning 5.56x45 rifles because AP ammo is available for them.

had to go get a box out of the safe to be sure. red polymer tip, box marked 5.7x28 standard round. ss196 s.r. ammunition (50 round box) made in belgium. not puttin in the lot number or model number. but anyway, the only thing i've actually shot with it, (out of my 57) is a copperhead. 1 shot snake died. but i couldn't find a mark on it. figure the round was going so fast just needled him. shot him a few more times just to be safe and headed to the house to let the wife know what i'd been shooting. i was in the woods behind my house. i was gonna go and try to dig up the rounds but it rained before i could get back out there. i'm using my 57 for a yard gun so next time i see a possum....

I fired both extensively at a shoot only yesterday, (FS2000 and PS90). I have to say, I was not a fan before I shot them, but would love to have one of each. I will say that the stock sight on the PS90 left a lot to be desired - aquiring the aiming circle took some doing. Other than that, the ran 100% and were accurate, (shooting eggs at 50-yards) as I could want. The FS 2000 had an Eotech on deck, which almost seems designed for the gun...Certainly not high, (or even on), my "must have list", but if the price were right - I'd jump...
