FNS-9 or FNX-9

I have a chance to get either an FNS-9 or FNX-9 brand new for $419.

My only question is DA/SA or Striker. Generally, as a rule I don't like DA/SA but with the FNX you can carry SA with the safety on (which is my favorite style of pistol action).

So, for me the choice is really SAO or DA Striker. Then again, I don't know how positive the safety is on the FNX. It may not be that nice "click" of a 1911. In which case I would have to carry DA/SA which I hate. Then I would prefer the FNS.

If I'm not mistaken, there are versions of the FNS available with a thumb safety as well.

There are and the one I have pictured has one but I think the action is still DAO with no lighter SA trigger but I may be wrong.

The extended mag release always hits the tip of my trigger finger when I pull the trigger on an FNX, and it gets really annoying. I've got large hands.

The FNS I played with had a nice trigger pull, and because the trigger doesn't travel as far as on the FNX, the mag release wasn't a problem. For that alone, I'd choose the FNS.

I had both. I traded off the fnx simply because I shot my 92fs much better, and I wanted to fund something else.

I bought my fns-40 at the height of the ammo drought since .40 was the only thing on the shelves and fell in love with fns as well as .40.

I just picked up an fns-40c because I wanted less of a duty size gun. Still keeping the full size fns because it's a great shooter, plus I can use the mags in the C.

I'm not much of a striker fired guy, generally, but two fns pistols in my collection seem to get the lion's share of the action to date.

My next purchase may very well be an fns-9c to go with the .40. Still, nothing wrong with fnx at all. Just keep in mind that fnx9 mags are different from fns9 mags if you end up with both.

Have tried the triggers on both models and actually prefer the DAO on the FNS over the DA/SA on the FNX.

A lot f FNS9/FNX9 owners are a bit miffed about that. Kinda silly to make the mags similar enough to look like they would fit but make them so that they rattle terribly (from what I have read) and don't feed correctly. I understand that they are in the business to also sell magazines, but at $50 a pop, I think they could have made them interchangeable.

It's one of the reasons I got rid of my FNP-45 and changed over to an HK45. The paddle release on the HK works for someone like me with long spindly fingers.

It's also why I'm considering an HK VP9. I handled one on Saturday for the third time, and really like it.

I have a FNX40 awesome pistol, FNH IMO is one of the most underrated pistol brands out
there.
The safety is not like a 1911 in terms of being positive, although its not mushy either.

The mags for the FNX FNS 40 are the same, can't understand why they are different on the 9mm.

I can't speak to the FN 9MMs as the only FN I own is an FNX-45, but if either the FNS or FNX in 9mm is as good as the FNX-45, it'd be a tough choice ... though I'd probably go with the hammer-fired FNX over the striker-fired version (just 'cause I'm a traditionalist).

Edit -- just saw you picked up a Beretta instead. Another fine pistol.
