The other thread was closed down before I got to answer some questions.

Kharn and Correia, the magazine was full of #3 buck, 5 rounds total.

I just got done talking with my mom. She told me the reason we didn't call animal control is because we have no official 24 hour a day animal control. I live outside of a small town. She told me that our animal control is through the humane society, and it was closed at that time of the night. Calling animal control would have required calling the humane society and going through a bunch of hoops to get anything done. My mom told me that the dog would have drowned in the time it would have taken to do that; she said it would have taken at least an hour, probably more.

LOOK--You did the ABSOLUTE right thing--

    First--

If you went out there unarmed and your Mom or Dad got their face chewed off -- EVERYONE on this board would be saying "You should have had a gun"

    Second--
You just stood by and kept the situation covered--

    Third --
Comments made by some of the respondents are simply Troll in nature--
One gentleman - after knocking you -- took the situation to a personal level by insulting another responding member--
THEN -- his next post (with only one innocuous response between) -- addressed the board as a whole with the crevat that we should keep away from // avoid personal attacks --

Don't let Troll like behavior of people trying to increase their ego dim the fact that you acted calmly and appropriately.

(Note that I refered to the nature of people's actions above NEVER the people themselves)

good going and thanks for the clarifications -- though they weren't really needed---:D
