For all the Ruger bashers out there.

I own a Ruger P-95 and while its not my favorite, nor the most accurate gun I have, I still couldn't bring myself to sell it when I was looking to fund a new project. It is just a well-built, rugged, reliable tool that I love to shoot.

I call my P-95 the Beefmaster as it is just a huge chunk of gun but fits my hand like a glove with the pachmayr grip I put on it, its pretty much perfect. To me they are like a really inexpensive Sig as far as their fit and feel.....and Beefiness goes.

I don't love my Ruger's nearly as much as my Glock's but simply put, I just respect them, ya know what I mean, they are just respectable guns?

As my grandfather would say: "I like a nice Ruger"(not the grandfather that worked at Ruger)

It's hard to believe that this thread is still going.

Ruger makes very good guns at reasonable prices............ which is the way this started. It's very hard to argue with the facts. Ruger has a few weapons shipped back for repair but so does every mfg'r. Do they have more (or fewer) repairs? I don't know but they DO stand behind their guns.

My only complaint, after having 4 revolvers, is bringing back a .22lr. I am tighter with my money now a days and shoot a lot more .22lr. I also don't want to pay $600 to $700 for a used one.

I have never met a handgun I didn't like but that being said, I'd take my Walther P99 if I only had one choice while running out of the house.

I guess I drank the kool-aide.

I've got a mini 14, a GP100, and an SP101. I also like Smith & Wessons, CZ's and Sigs but I don't have and won't be buying any Glock, XD or Taurus products.

Edit: I've got a couple Taurus revolvers but won't be buying any more.

They are indeed clunky and heavy. HOWEVER, I bought a super blackhawk not long after buying a S&W 629 because I found out that the 629 won't take the loads that a super blackhawk will.

I own a few Rugers... not totally committed to Ruger but I do think they build some decent guns.
One thing in their favor is that their customer service has never disappointed me. I've had a lot of defective guns and other than Ruger and DSA, no one has ever resovled an issue to my satisfaction.

Bill Ruger was not only the most prolific firearms designer of the 20th century but also an extremely successful businessman.

Bill Ruger would whore out his own mother, grandmother and daughters if he thought the return on investment was there.

I love my Ruger's, but he threw every gun owner under the bus in 1994 in favor of keeping his Mini 14 off the ban list and to get preferential sourcing for his P and KP series handguns. Then he tried to but us off by donating some money to the NRA.

I'm sick of the posts saying that Rugers are "hideous" or "clunky" this is just your opinion so try to indicate this in the future to prevent yourself from looking like a fool!! Investment casting does not make a gun, golfclub head or any other sporting device clunky, or big or any such nonsense. Investment casting is a very modern procedure and just because the item being casted needs to be a little larger when constructed this is due to shrinkage during the cooling process. Ruger's are the size they are due to design...and IMHO damn good designs. BTW...If you can't conceal a P series pistol then you have not tried very hard. And to speculate that he would "whore out" his family is just base on your part.

Rant done.

I'm a Ruger fan... own a number .... their minis 14 & 30 were pretty bad up until recent times...

as a corporation their primary goal is to keep the stock holders happy and I'm sure wiser folks than me are there looking at and making decisions... their biggest mistake of late in my opinion was to stop selling the P95 decocker model and now only offer the ones with a safety....

Ruger's customer service is very good.
Their revolvers have always been very good for me.
Their autos are build like a tank. My only complaint with them is they are fugly.
Get a new designer to handle the aesthetics for god's sake.

Blume, I agree with you 100% on that one...the P95DC was a fine pistol and the new ones don't need a safety IMO, the safety is the long trigger pull. With that said I own one of the new P95PRs and its a great shooter...I can more than live with the safety and have trained accordingly with it. Long live Ruger!!

I thought I might take the "handgun of the year" award seriously but then I saw that the Taurus PT111 was also a winner.

Also they awarded two revolvers, in .460 and .500, handgun of the year. How are those guns practical to any casual gun owner? They're pretty much for handgun hunters and guides.

Ruger needs to bring back at least one double action 22 revolver to go along with their current offerings. My preference would be a 9-10 shot GP-100. Yeah, I'd probably buy one if the trigger was half way good.

I hate to say it but I don't like it. To my eyes the proportions are off and they round things off in places that don't look well executed. It's better than some, but I can't put my finger on it.

I think the Gun Mags are like politicians in that they will endorse whatever results in monetary reward.

That being said, I have a Ruger P95 that I would/do stake my life on and it is nothing short of a tank-like firearm.

Likewise, I can say this for many others in my collection as well that have received good&bad reviews (including 'Gun of the Year').

As the ol' saying goes, opinions are like a**ho*** in that everybody has one (and many times there is a hidden/known agenda that coincides).

-Happy Holidays:)

"I hate to say it but I don't like it. To my eyes the proportions are off and they round things off in places that don't look well executed. It's better than some, but I can't put my finger on it."

Fair enough. ;)

I'm on my third main spring on my Ruger P95DC. It was one of the first handguns I purchased as an over-21 adult, and I've gone through countless cases of 9mm over the 13 years I've owned it. Can't say I have any complaints. Hasn't broke, just had the spring get a little weak a couple of times, and I've gone through a couple magazines thanks to dropping them in the dirt over and over again (mainly at IPSC).

I still own the other handgun I bought 13 years ago (when I was 21), a Glock 21, and it's on it's second recoil spring and second trigger spring. Don't have any clue how many rounds I've put through it, although it's been "a lot". :)

One thing I'll say about the P95DC and Glock 21 both, I've never had a misfeed or malfunction that wasn't directly my fault.

Ruger makes great revolvers, their 22 auto pistols I like a lot.

Their semi auto center fire pistols are all ugly but very durable and serviceable.

10/22 is only a "ok" rifle in my opinion. Other than the rotary mag it's nothing special to me.

The Mini 14 is a waste of metal and wood

The M77 is only a "fair" hunting rifle, well constructed, excellent fit and finish but most are only "fair" in the accuracy dept. Triggers are horrid, horrid, horrid.

Their Number 1 rifles are things of beauty but you will rarely find one that will shoot better than 1.5 MOA without a lot of expensive work. Horrid trigger also

Their O/U shotguns are very appealing to the eye, probably last a hunter a lifetime, but don't try to use one for skeet or sporting clays on any type of regular basis because they don't hold up.

Customer service is great..... I "blew up" a Blackhawk in 45LC 25yrs ago... they wanted it for inspection so I mailed it to them. A few weeks later I got a call offering to replace it at a price no one could refuse so I took it. (I got distracted while using a progressive press and double charged a case with a load that was already "pushing it").

As I'm more into function AND accuracy, I don't own any Rugers any more with the exception of a MKIII pistol and GP100

That GP100 will never leave my inventory.

The prices on their rifles no longer have the "gap" they used too compared to the competition so I see no reason at all to own one... Until they get their accuracy issues solved.

They start making a rifle that will compete with a run of the mill Savage in the accuracy dept then I'll start buying them again.
