For M&P lovers!

Love my S&W M&P 40C. After 5 years, my second CCW permit is about to expire so I took the renew and re-certify course on Friday night. The 40c work perfectly (no big surprise). 1000+rounds, never failed to fire or eject.

I have to admit its a heavy brick on my side though and my intentions of buying it to carry are not being fulfilled. I currently use an OWB Galco belt holster. May try a different holster (one with a paddle perhaps), but fully loaded you never forget its there - in fact you're constantly aware of it. Not really what I want for CCW.

Any advice on other holsters or carry options would be well received. Been thinking of getting a S&W Bodyguard or Sig P238 or LCP. Carried a 642 for a while, but never fully became a fan of a 5 shot snubbie...

Buckwheat, I've carried my M&P 9c for years now and it isn't that big a deal in a good holster. I carry mine in a Peter's Custom IWB Holster. I'm thinking of buying a Crossbreed Supertuck for it though. I have a feeling if you try a holster like that you'll get used to the size/weight of the M&P pretty quickly. The bottom line for me is the M&P 9C is the most accurate and effective pistol I've ever had. The small difference in size or weight gained by trading to a different pistol usually results in a much harder to shoot, less effective platform.

Not all M&P's, a couple of H&K drifters and a plain old S&W 22a at the top, but the rest are :)

From Left to right, row by row:

S&W 22a, M&P 40 pro w/night sights, M&P 327 R8, M&P 40 pro with fiber optic sights, M&P 340, M&P 40 pro 4.25" with night sights, M&P 40 with night sights, M&P 40 compact, H&K USP 40 w/ night sights x2.

I'm good on handguns for awhile. I'll buy a 1911 in .40 if S&W makes one but that's about it.

Jon, I carry my M&P40c in a Comp Tac Minotaur that when not wearing a jacket is tucked in. I have no real problems carrying it when tucked, even with the grip extension (both magazine have these pads). I'll admit the pistol would be more concealable with the flat base plate, but I don't really like a pinky curled under the grip.

The Minotaur is very similar in function to the Supertuck and it conceals very well. However, I understand the the Supertuck has a flatter profile. It should be as concealable if not more so than my Minotaur, so you are quite correct in your belief that these pistols (compacts) are indeed concealable with a good leather/Kydex tuck-type holster.

I had the Minotaur and I really don't like it compared to the Supertuck. The Supertuck is much less bulky, conceals better, has much better retention, has metal belt clips, and the portion covering the trigger guard is attached to the leather which is in my opinion much safer. Comptac is a great company but I would really like to see them redesign the shells for the Minotaurs.

I suppose if I had a Supertuck to compare it to, I might like it better. However, I've been quite pleased with my Minotaur. As for retention, mine does have tension screws that attach the Kydex to the leather. When I received my holster, I had to relieve some of the tension on the first 2 as the holster simply would not release the pistol otherwise without a ridiculously hard tug.

If I need to purchase a tuck holster for another pistol, I look forward to giving the Supertuck a shot.

I'll add one of my five M&P's to the thread.

When in doubt... Go for a Pro...

I have to get in on this action and show my love for the M&P. I've owned M&P9 and 40 full size pistols, both with thumb safeties as that is how I train.

I'm diggin' all the M&P pics. My g19 gen 3 is at the Smyrna Ga headquarters right now, being exchanged for a gen 4 g19. My M&P 45c has been my main CC gun, and my night stand duty gun since the glock has been away. I am trust my life with the 45c, no questions asked. And I have half a mind to start carrying the 45c full time, at least durring the cold weather.

I have 3000+ rounds through the M&P 45c without a single hiccup of any kind. It has been the definition of flawless, it is the best performing pistol that I personally have ever dealt with. The glock on the other hand, is being replaced by glock free of charge because of ejection issues/stovepipes issues, that they could not resolve. So they have agreedto exchange it for a gen 4 g19 with the newest RSA and ejector.

I talked with glock around 2pm today, and they said the gen 4 19 is now in house and should be shipping by the end of this week. This is finally being resolved, IMO, it won't be resolved until the gun is in my hand. :)

If I cranked down the adjustment screws mine would fit tight also but being "tight" isn't the whole point. The Supertuck gives you a positive feel when you holster or draw the minotaur doesn't. Either will hold the pistol so it doesn't fall out and neither is grab resistant more than the other. The poster I was responding to said the M&P felt bulky. The Supertuck is lighter, uses thinner leather and thinner, better molded, kydex. The Minotaur is much bulkier by comparison. I was trying to suggest holsters that carried the pistol better AND were less bulky to address his concerns. I got rid of the Minotaur because it was at least 1/4" thicker than my Peter's Custom holster and it was probably three times heavier.

I know a lot of people love the Minotaur and I love the Comptac C-Tac and the company as a whole but I didn't care for the Minotaur product at all.

'06 M&P 40FS, Apex DCAEK, RAM and FRE installed, nearing 4000 rounds down range, trouble free since purchase in 02/2011.

I threw in the BG380 as a bonus.

Love my M&P9c and it has served me well. It is currently for sale being replaced by a PF9 as my EDC but I will replace it with a M&P9 full size for USPSA shoots.

Here is my baby before I removed the thumb safety and purchased a stippled backstrap.....

^^^^That is a great looking gun. I would love to have a pro series. Now I just need to look for an excuse to buy one. lol

@ smitty

I was not shooting it very well.

So I installed a Apex D/CAEK trigger upgrade pn it.

Man it made a tremendous difference for me.

I now hit consistently & fire very fast.

You might consider the change.

I have thought about getting the dcaek, I need to go ahead and purchase the kit. I also have looked at the "RAM" from apex, it is a reset assist designed to make the reset more pronounced and add a pronounced "click" upon reset. From what I hear, Apex makes top notch products.

Here are some pics of M&P .45FS. I textured the grip, did a trigger job, and carved out a reference notch in the trigger guard.

It is my favorite pistol by far.

Has anyone noticed the side to side play the slide has? I have three M&Ps and they all do it to some degree, so I take it it's normal. I doubt it effects accuracy. Perhaps it increases reliability when filthy by having a looser tolerance.
