For my first: G19 or CZ75?

That is a good point there are totally different guns, I love the cz 75b and hate the glock, but thats just how I feel about them. They are both good guns and either will work just fine, I carry a full sized cz 75b with no problems but the glock would be lighter, it just comes down to what you like, what fits your hand, and what one you can shoot the best.

I fully understand they are apples and oranges and that's where I'm stuck! Not only that now I'm playing with the idea of a used HK USP compact possibly?

What do you'll think of a used HK thrown into the mix? I'll edit first post so the HK idea is at the start.

As a said. This would mainly be for range and then home defense and possibly a CCW weapon. I've fired the glock but only held the CZ. I don't mind striker fire compared to DA/SA and thats why I'm a little stuck!!! (I've fired a DA/SA before but don't recal what firearm it was because this was before I was mildly knowledgable about them)

Just like when I was looking for what college to go to..: I loved the city. But at the same I loved open rural colleges! I guess I'll probably end up with both within the next year or two so now it's just which to get first!

Any pros/cons of the firing systems that you've found from personal preference/use?

Isow:

To all your questions I'm pretty neutral on all my answers. I adapted to whatever was in my hand and they both felt great and I know I would love either one! Only if the budget was double to get both:)

A used H&K USP compact sounds like an excellent pistol to throw into the mix. Not only is it DA/SA, the variant one has a safety lever that also allows you to decock the pistol and it will be concealable. Not to mention you might get an excellent deal on that pistol. One that I am partial to is the SA XDm. It is striker fired, has a "Match Grade" barrel and allows you to change the backstraps in order to fit the pistol to your hand. Something the standard XD won't allow. I have the XDm 4.5 in .45 ACP and it is an outstanding value as I'm sure the 9mm version is also. There is now a compact version that might be even more appealing for CCW later.;)

Cz57:

Want to point me in the direction of a good deal HK? what would be am acceptable range for the price of a used HK USP compact 9mm?

What is the price on the one you've been looking at. I'm not too current on prices. I paid $625 for a new USP I bought in 1994. I'm guessing that around $500 would be a very good deal for a pistol in excellent condition. CDNN Investments might have the USP compact as they sell a good number of H&K pistols.;)

I have owned Glocks and CZs. I will not knock the CZs. But, if a Glock 19 can't do it, a CZ can't either. Especially a 75B.

Yeah the HK is def. On the upper end 600+. I think i like the idea of getting a new pistol.

The HK will be a later purchase as i know I'll keep buying more pistols for the collection:)

For simplicity of a first gun I think I may go with the glock. My friends dad in the FBI has one and loves it for those very reasons. So simple. Easy to clean. Striker fire. ...along with I'd be able to CCW with it.

Im planning on adding a night sights and extended slight lock/release. Anything else ?

Now these forums have me fearing the Gen 4. Do they still make/sell Gen 3? Are they easy to find?

I know a lot of people are fine with their g4. But I'd rather be safe with a g3.

I prefer the G19 to a traditional DA/SA pistol because I can put rounds on target faster without the long DA trigger pull. Glocks are also very size efficient; compare barrel length to overall length and magazine capacity to height to see what I mean.

Finally making my first post...although ive been reading here for months! Thought i would never cave to make the "first handgun" post but it looks like i have! Oh well:rolleyes: everyone is so helpful here even though many topics are repeated it's hard not to ask for help!

Wanted to get peoples thoughts on both g19 and cz75b in 9mm. Both are available in my area (DE). I've shot the glock and loved it. Simple-nice short trigger-easy to take care of. Have not shot the CZ but just have read so many positive things about it and have held/dry fired it. My price limit is about $600. Right now I'm leaning towards the g19 as I plan to get my CCW in a year and could use that for it where as the cz75 would be too large probably. It would be mainly used for range, and then when i get my CCW its uses would expand. May get another gun for CCW, maybe not-depends on finances-not my wants :D

I like the striker fire of the glock but also don't mind the CZ (DA/SA for the 75B i think? Correct me)

Pretty much narrowed it down between those two. But am also playing with the idea of a used HK USP compact??

No SW Mp9, no beretta px4 storm (fs is too big for my likes) , no ruger, no XD and no sig for now.

Leme here your banter and thoughts!

Thanks,

Dave
Two of the three best 9mm pistols made(the other being the Beretta 92FS), either would be a superb choice. However there are some significant advantages to the Glock over the CZ & the Beretta.

All things being equal, the Glock is the more sensible choice, it has but 34 parts, while the CZ has almost seventy(68)! Any part you're likely to need to keep your Glock running and in action can be expected to be had within a matter of no more then a day, if not a few hours. The CZ? You'll be lucky to even find a gunsmith who will work on it for you, let alone replacement parts(one venue in KC). Unless things have changed dramatically within the last few years, it could take months to get the parts for your CZ....

^thanks for the input. Didn't think of the CZ part supply. I thought of the 92Fs but it's just too big for what I want. And the px4 storm just seemed a little, for a lack of a better word, gimmicky.

Not entirely true....

Don't worry about the Gen 4. Most of what you hear about on forums are the bad incidents. For every malfunctioning Glock, there are literally thousands of ones which have worked flawlessly.

That's similar to with my car forums. When there is a problem with a car it's seems like every car has it on the forum, but it's because they had the problem that they are posting so it gets more noticed.

If you are considering using this gun as a CCW, the Glock 19 would be a better choice. It is considerably smaller and lighter than the CZ. Add to the mix a wider range of concealment holsters and its the way to go, I think.

I really like my CZ75, but all it is to me is a fun range toy and maybe a small game gun. My Glock 19 is my primary concealed carry weapon and will only be replaced by a Glock 23 if I want to switch calibers. IMO the Glock 19/23 is about the biggest practical size for CC. I can make my M&P45 work sometimes, but it's not ideal.

You're in the same boat as me! I am considering the same thing for my purchase in April. My problem is now I'm thinking about .40SW as an option.

Glock 23, problem solved. :D

CZ-75 for me.
With me it was a matter of fit. Glocks just feel too awkward in my hand, while CZ's are about perfect for me. Both are great guns IMO. I don't see where you could go wrong with either.

IMO, the Glock is the "working gun". For the way I use mine, the 17 gets carried more than the 19, because I don't CC. If I wear a jacket, I guess that makes it CC, but only in the vast wilds.
With the 19, I like all of the things already said, plus it will accept any larger Glock 9mm magazine. Glock magazines are cheaper, and much easier to get.
Consider that your CC gun will be subjected to sweat, and whatever grime your body encounters. Give this a read:

For CCW and OC, I prefer an unstoppable, absolutely reliable firearm. In that regard there is no better than the Glock.
I'd say get the G19 first, because it can always be your "working gun".
The CZ 75/85 is one of the most beautiful firearms ever crafted. Yes, it's heavy, but the more accurate versions aren't that much more expensive. I'd love to have one, if we get thru the next few "tests" of this republic without conflict. My CZ would get much more attention, and it would live in a padded case. It would have only 2 magazines, because it would not be intended for use in social conditions. I would probably work up hand loads just for that gun. I would develop a rather snobbish attitude about it.

All around I think for what you are looking for the G19 is the pistol for you especially if you are going to carry. The only thing is finding one in a local store could be a problem after the shooting...seems like everyone is buying up the G17 & G19 in fear that they will be taken away for citizen purchase since every wacko seems to use Glocks in their rampages...maybe if more people carried these situations would not get so out of hand and people would see the benefit of responisble people carrying instead of trying to take guns and the ability to carry legally away from us :scrutiny:

I have a Glock 19 gen4 and I love it so far. Only have a couple hundred rounds through it, though.

I think you should go with the Glock, gen 3 or 4 - whatever you can get the best deal on. Their slide and barrel are nitrided to prevent corrosion, which I think would be nicer for carry duty - as well as the fact that they must be lighter than the CZ.

By the way, with GSSF (Glock Sport Shooting Foundation) membership, you can purchase a Glock at law enforcement discount price - 1 pistol per year. Membership is $35, LE price is like $425-450. Puts you at just under $500 if you have a participating dealer nearby.

They also have meetups for shooting matches and stuff. They do take a little while to send their membership kit (all you need is your ID card for the pistol discount). But, you'll save around $100 easy.
