Active duty Air Force here. I hit 20 years in May but just re-enlisted in Feb 05 for 4 more.

On duty the only weapon I carry is my pen. In another 5 months (possibly) I will be sporting an M-16 and an M-9 along with web gear, helmet and flack jacket.

Off duty its a Kimber Pro Carry for CCW.

I'm intel, they don't give me a gun
Good thing........ :neener:

homicide prosecutor, Atlanta, GA. Our boss prohibits us from carrying. The previous administration issued every ADA a gun.
A co-worker of mine is moving to another circuit. Every ADA there can choose between .40 Glocks or Sigs (!).
My last job issued us Glock 27's.
One nice thing about this job is that each ADA in my division has our own investigator, and our investigators are required to be with us at all times during trials (even following us to our cars). Our investigators carry Glock 23's. So we can't carry but we have our own armed bodyguards.
Of course, once I get to my car, I have my own arsenal. :)

You boss is an idiot...

All our ADA's carry, or they can if they wish, we qualify about 5 everytime we go qualify.

Come a bit further south, down I-75, we have an ADA in a neighboring county who owns and keeps for home defense a full auto MAC-10.

City LE for the last 28 years, 2 years state LE before that. Our department allows officers to choose their own handgun within policy guidelines. I carry a Colt Gunsite Pistol as primary, Smith 342 Airlight as BUG, and have a department issue Colt M4 for a rifle. The patrol guys get a 14" Vang 870 and either AR15 carbine or M16 issued to them. Entry officers get MP5s. I used to have one but lost it when I was promoted, dang it.

Sheriff Deputy- issue Glock 22

Started out with the PD, back when it was what you carry. I then carried my fav, Colt Ser 70 :)

Formerly USAF
Currently TEXAS Air National Guard
Primary weapon M16A2

I did join the Base Marksmanship Team to play and compete with the cool stuff: M9, 1911, M1, M14, M24, M240B, M60, M4, S&W 41, S&W 52...

Sheriff's Deputy. Glock 35 with an extra Glock 22. Mossberg 500 and AR15 for good measure.

Right there with LennyJoe.

Active Duty Air Force. Qualify every year with M9 and M16, per aircrew rules. Putting the finishing touches on a 20-year career. (TAP class was well worth it) A couple days after my retirement is official, it appears I will walk back into the same unit as a GS-12/13 - probably keep the same haircut. Nomex will be traded for a suit and tie. :( (On the bright side, since I'm forced to do the suit and tie thing, I'll carry my 696 as my off-base CCW gun, dresses things up nicely)

In 2 months I'll be in the USAF active duty as a Security Forces guy after basic.

Then I'll get an M16/M4 and/or an M9 or other heavy weapon depending on where they send me.

Retired city LEO. Department requires S&W on-duty carry: 9mm or 45. I think SWAT carries different brand/caliber weapons.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Institutional Division (Correctional Officer)

Most days just the issue LE-10 OC spray, since I work inside the walls. If I work PST (perimeter security team) or offsite escort, one of the following:

S&W Model 36 .357
Remington 870 Police 12 gauge
Colt AR-15 .223

We used to use LE-10, until fears of inmates bursting into flames being tasered after being gassed forced us to switch to Sabre Red, water based, and is not as effective. The LE-10 was MUCH better....

I'm working on the same thing. Gonna be nice having a retirement and GS-12 pay too. Makes for plenty of money to purchase more firearms. :D

Not to steal the topic, but how much weight does prior military service have when trying to become Law enforcement? I have gone through some schools that would transfer over IE MOUT instructor, Non-lethal weapons/Crowd-riot control,

Depends on the department.

USN here ET3

im currently stationed at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, and for guns, we dont use anything!! they dont want us baby nukes near firearms, they must be afraid or something.

in fact when i talk about shooting i get odd looks from the command, they must think we nukes only play everquest or D&D or something like that :p

deputy sheriff here

we're issued either the sig 226R or 239 and have a choice of 9mm or .40

those of us who have been on prior to '95 have a wider choice for carry if we're willing to pay for it. i flip-flop between the beretta 96, sig 220 and hk p7...BUG is my smith 642

for off-duty, i'll add the sig 228 to the mix and i'm just breaking in the SW 1911 Sc

city officer for 16 yrs. ,issued glock 21, s&w 642 b/u and off-duty as well as kimber 1911 (that i would rather carry on-duty if i had a choice) and a colt ar.

I'm active Air Force, for a couple more months anyways (4 & out). I'm an intel guy as well, so they don't trust us with guns ;) I do however work a 2nd job off-duty as an armed, private security officer.

When I asked my company about what equipment I'd get for the armed work, they said "You get one of our knock-off .38 revo's and a pair of knock-off cuffs, oh and a belt and holster." I was like "Can I use my stuff?" They obliged. So I carry my Para P13-45, in addition to all the other stuff on my own duty belt. I love having the local cops ooh and aaah over my pistol because their department restricts them to carry these single stack 9mm pistols that look like rejects from Hi-Point.

noonanda,

"Not to steal the topic, but how much weight does prior military service have when trying to become Law enforcement? "

It will give you a slight leg up in most departments if all other things are equal. We get a LOT of ex-military types apply, thus we hire a lot too.
