Fred Thompson for Pres

Fred's a Gunny

How many candidates have a shooting event named after them?

He's strong on the two issues that mean the most to me: border security (immigration enforcement) and RKBA.

I'm not a huge fan of the Patriot Act but that, by itself, is not a deal breaker.

He's a straight shooter, he's clean, he's well-known, he knows Washington, and he's the only one I can think of that might "do a Reagan" in the White House.

I could get behind him.

He's the goods.

Thompson is at variance with Ron Paul on three issues I consider to be of critical importance. The Patriot Act, McCain-Feingold, and the War in Iraq. I will vote for Paul in the primary. If Thompson wins the primary, I may vote for him in the Fall.

2 for me, but I will vote for him over a third party candidate should he gain the nomination. I mean, let's face it, I'm not going to completely agree with anyone running unless it's me on the ticket.

I can not dismiss the PA support so easily. The potential for abuse and the trashing of the bill of rights may just be the getting the foot inside the door. The real issues with it are down the road. I hope it is an aberration in this country such as the ban on gold ownership in this country years ago and not a sign of things to come.

So long as FT supports it I can not support him as much as I would really like to.

I'm not too crazy about his support of the Patriot Act either but given the choices of who could potentially be in control of those powers, I'll take my chances on Fred Thompson over any liberal Democrat or the front running "Republican" candidates any day.

I'll vote for him.

I'm #5744 at 6:18 PM EDT. While I do not agree with Mr. Thompson on several issues, we are in line as far as my two most important are concerned. I.e. the 2nd Amendment and border security.

Sincerely,

Prof. A. Wickwire

President Thompson

If he runs, he has my vote. He is by far, the person that represents my views
the best. He is well spoken, honest and a true believer in the constitution. No BS from this guy. Hope he runs. He will probably announce, and start his campaign about the time the rest of them start losing steam, and are worn out and hopefully broke:)
Our country needs Fred Thompson(imho)

For what it's worth I just got a phone poll wanting my opinion on 2008 presidential candidates. The main questions were:

1. Who my preferred presidential candidate was. They listed every candidate I could think of, both declared and undeclared.

2. Specific matchups. They wanted to know Clinton vs. McCain, vs. Guiliani and vs. Thompson, and then Obama vs. McCain, vs. Guiliani and vs. Thompson. I'm guessing whoever paid for the poll assumes one of these six matchups is the most likely.

3. Finally what totally surprised me was they asked me of my opinion of Steve Forbes as a presidential candidate. I'm not kidding.

Ron Paul voted against the grossly unconstitutional patriot act, have any of you read this law...reads like some brownshirts wrote it...

RON PAUL 2008!

Ron Paul CAN'T WIN; Fred Thompson CAN. I learned my lesson in 1992 when I supported Ross Perot, and Clintoon won because the vote was split.

Hey, why are all you Ron Paul supporters wasting your time on gun boards? We're in the tiny minority of the US populace that has heard of him. If you want Ron Paul to win, what you need to do is get his name out to about another 30,000,000 Americans and raise a whole bunch of money real quick.

Otherwise, it's a pipe dream, and no matter how much you tell other posters on the gunboards that we suck, and are lame for not going nuts for Paul, and how the patriot act sucks (believe me, I probably know more than you do), you need to get your guy out there.

In the meantime, it looks like we're going to get Rudy, unless we can run somebody against him who can win the nomination. Thompson can win the nomination, and though he may not be as good as Paul on some things, he's tons better than Rudy.

So unless we see a little tiny bit of evidence that Paul can win something/anything, then I'm supporting the least crappy candidate that can beat Rudy. Right now, that's Thompson.

Of course now I'll get the inevitable hate mail about the CFR, the Patriot act, and voting for the lesser of two evils. Thanks. We've all heard it a few times now.

I actually like Thompson. The last thing he did in office was organize DHS, and he tried to make it not a giant bloated bureacracy, and at the time, he thought he had succeeded. And when asked about it recently was man enough to admit that it didn't work out.

When asked point blank difficult political questions on national news programs, he actually answers Yes or No. Holy crap. When's the last time a politician answered with a simple yes or no?

That is a good, concrete answer. What I've been trying to ferret out was why people liked him. I kept hearing him raved about as if here were the ideal candidate and when I looked at his record, while, as you mentioned, he was better than the rest, he was far from ideal. I know, we won't have an ideal candidate and I understand that. It was just that I couldn't reconcile the raves about Thompson with what I was reading elsewhere about his record. I wanted to hear why people felt so strongly - if it was just because everyone else was so bad or whether Thompson was truly a good candidate. Thanks.
