5 gr Unique works well with plated and cast for me, but what a pain to meter. Dirty, too....and there is always Unique...
I would love to try VV Powders but they are just not available where I live. I don't need enough powder to order online and cover the Hazmat fee either. Luckily there are so many powders available now it's only a small loss.True Blue is worth a try.
N330, N340, or 3N37 are good depending on power level wanted, but IIRC they are not readily available to you.
Try some Silhouette.
I was trying to avoid all the forum lawyers telling me not to use handloads for SD.Not sure exactly what your priorities are for this load. CFE Pistol works very well but won't yield quite the velocity of BE-86. With a 124 grain FMJ my full power non +P CFE-P load does about 1125fps and is very accurate. BE-86 will do 1160+fps at this pressure level if this is a decision-driver.
A SIG P320 Compac which has a 3.9" barrel. I will be trying some 124gr Speer GDHP bullets first.ArchAngelCD, what gun will you be shooting this ammo from?

Basically agreed, but it depends on seating depth. I could go up to 5.7 if the bullet wasn't seated deeply. 5.7 shot real well for me with the RMR in house MPR 124 Gr JHP @ 1.105 to 1.110, but was a bit too warm for me @ 1.070 to 1.075. 5.9 was too hot period with that bullet, IMHO.I did not see a need to go above the 5.5 load based on my numbers, so that is where i stopped.
Yes, thank you AC, that thread and post is what prompted me to create this thread.
For decades, since I used factory Speer Gold Dot/Remington Golden Saber JHP ammunition, I have reloaded practice rounds using same Gold Dot/Golden Saber bulk bullets with WSF for higher velocity full power loads but since Alliant released BE-86, it is now my favored powder for full power loads due to greater accuracy.SIG P320 Compac which has a 3.9" barrel. I had to chuckle when I read this. Several years ago I was shooting an IDPA match, using my S&W 681 with .357 Magnum loads with a near-max charge of Longshot under a 158-grain JHP. After one stage, I had the following conversation with another shooter...Longshot delivers good accuracy and good velocity but it's very loud..
Yup, that's about right. When I shoot Longshot I use plugs and earmuffs. Problem is, if I need to shoot in a SD situation I don't want to lose my hearing because of no hearing protection.I had to chuckle when I read this. Him: "What loads were those? They hurt my ears when you were shooting."
Me: "Those were .357 Magnums, loaded with Longshot powder. You should've been wearing your hearing protection."
Him: "I was wearing my hearing protection."
I tried True Blue for 9x19 and thought my chronogragh was messed up. In a seven shot string this what I got,Take a look at True Blue. I discovered it during the first Obama era shortage and have been using it in my 9x19 ever since.
I wish the accuracy was as good as numbers, but to my surprise it was not. IIRC 5.4 gr of TB had a sd of 2 but the accuracy did not reflect it.
I did not get top accuracy from True Blue in 9MM with 115 Gr bullets, but it was acceptable. Haven't tried it with other bullet weights.I wish the accuracy was as good as numbers
Yes, BE-86 is certainly very similar burn speed to our Unique(R), and Universal was designed to be a clone of Unique, so if A=B, and B=C, then A=C.How about it Paul?
