Hi Everyone,
I haven't seen one of these threads on the high road yet, and I have had a lot of fun with similar threads on other forums, so I thought I'd start one here and I hope others join in and post questions as well as answers as well.

Here's the first question.

Can anyone identify the round pictured, country of origin, and tell me the gun it was fired from?
If no one has the correct answer by tomorrow at this time, I'll post a hint.

4,183 fps. "Weighting 64.25 g (2.25 oz), the cartridge contained 11.15 g (172 grains) of propellant and was topped by a 14.579 g (225 grains) bullet"

I don't know the answer, but I figured I'd pad the thread so people have to scroll down when it is answered.

that took considerably less time than I thought, Great golden google skills, Batman! I knew leaving the tech specs in was too much of a clue, lol

I'll pirate another question from another thread to buy myself some time, hopefully....you guys are good

What was the first U.S. military rifle originally designed for the 30-06 cartridge?

Well, in all fairness, you copy and pasted a direct quote used on several pages about the rifle.
Now the real question is, who would have known just from the pic of it without searching for the quote provided.

Lol, well done, M...
technically the M1A, as far as I know

now can you tell me the first U.S. service rifle chambered in 30-06? That one might take a little longer....its a bit less obvious ;P

.30-06 first chambered in the M1 Garand, but, if I recall correctly, it was also 'tested' with rebarreled Enfields, I may be wrong, but I seem to recall reading something about the .30-06 along those lines.

That would be the M1 Garand.

The 1903 Springfield was originally designed for the .30-03 round, and the Enfields were .303.

Hint: made in the 1970's and chambered in 5.56x45 mm

Nope, not the M1 garand, that came along later

Technically the M1 Garand was originally to be chambered in .276 Pedersen. It's only after the military decided they needed to get rid of a lot of M2 ball that it was switched to .30-06.

The M1903 was originally designed around the .30-03, not the .303 British.

I believe the BAR is the correct answer.
