Funnest gun you have shot

In 2002 we went to Las Vegas, I won some money and in addition to being able to buy my girlfriend (now wife) some jewelry and some clothes and myself a Ruger Mark I .22 LR target pistol. The next day my girlfriend, my best friend and I went and rented two submachine guns at a local shooting range. An H&K MP5 and a "Schmeisser" MP-40 and we bought 1,000 rds for both of them.

The MP-40 was my favorite.

The bolt lurch wasn't near as bad as some people say. Non-issue. That's just something for people to talk about I guess. Liked the trigger and the sights. The rear sight was just a screwed in notch type set for a 100 meters and then there was this additional flip up for 200 meters. The front sight was hooded and was the inspiration for the MP-44, STG-45 and then the Cetme and G-3 I guess.

Didn't like the MP-5 near as much. I obviously wouldn't turn one down if someone gave me one for free, but I much prefer the H&K 91 and/or the H&K 93 for H&K long guns.

The MP-40 felt much handier and much more alive than the MP-5 right next to it.

So that gun was pretty fun.

Unfortunately I've never had $43,500 for a fully transferable MP-40.

I remember those pop-air guns Scooter's talking about in post 9. Used to chase the ducks around with them myself.

My "most-fun-ever-shot" is pretty tame, but I do have quite a few I have not yet shot, including an AR, AK, and a M-N. I expect that one of them, or of several others, could possibly surpass the fun I had with my first-ever, a Winchester M190 .22 rifle, or the one I've had the most difficulty putting down once started, a Heritage Rough Rider (which reminds me, I also have a Henry lever .22 in the "unfired" heap.)

I got to shoot this Maxim 08/15 Zeppelin Gun from the shoulder and hip "Rambo Style" last December. Hitting a gong at 300 yards up a hill with a WWI full auto 8mm belt fed machine gun, shooting from the hip while screaming "Get some!" was pretty much the coolest thing I have ever done. Unfortunately I was shooting video and stills and nobody shot video or stills of me doing it. Same day, same session, a full auto Glock G17 in a CAA Roni Stock was a close runner up.

Little 20ga Ithaca semi auto shotgun on clays. Next to no recoil, just beautiful balance. Just a pleasure to shoot.

The guns I've had the most FUN with are easily attainable for most people. A WASR10 AK that I stupidly sold about 10 years ago. It didn't suffer any of the issues that people have/had with WASRs. I could put 2000+ rounds of Wolf ammo through it in a weekend, forget about it for 2 months, and put another 2000+ through it without any issues. It was up to 10 or 12k at one point without cleaning, just a drop of oil in a couple spots and it ran like a champ.

Then there's a stainless Ruger GP100 with 3" barrel that my dad used to own. I worked up a load for it that allowed me to put 75% of my shots on a 16" square target at 100 yards, from a bench of course. That's probably not a great percentage for some people but considering my limited pistol skills, that's awesome. In that heavy stainless revolver the load I worked up also felt like shooting a .22lr., which made it even more fun.

And last but not least, my Benelli Super Black Eagle. I love that shotgun. Shooting any other shotgun requires too much work. When I have my SBE in my hands it seems to aim itself. All I have to do is let it know when I'm ready to shoot by pulling the trigger.

As for most interesting guns my list is still pretty tame. I really enjoyed the 2 Desert Eagles that I've fired, a .357 and a .50AE. And the single shot .50BMG that I've fired was pretty sweet too. And Mosin Nagant carbines are pretty fun with the big fireball that they let out with every shot. These are all great for a short time but they can have punishing recoil and most people wouldn't be able to shoot them all day. That's why I'd say the AK, the GP100, and the SBE are the most fun. I can shoot them all day without worrying about sore hand or shoulders the next day, and every minute I get to spend shooting is a minute that I don't have to spend doing other "stuff."

A well used BAR. Fellow at the range let me shoot 1 magazine. This was a while back when you were allowed to shoot full auto at the club.

XM16E1 in a land far away and a long time ago. Free food, free ammo moving targets.

I have a pack of 1968 c-ration Pall Malls if anyone needs a quick smoke.

Well, let's see:

BAR.
Quad .50 on an M-16 halftrack.
M2 Carbine at seagulls and seashells on the beach at Inchon.
Thompson.
M16.

Beaucoup others, of course.

I guess different sets of memories with the various guns. Had a good time with all of them.

Lot to be said for the old BAR. :D

I guess I'm weird.

The guns I enjoy shooting the most are manually operated .22s.

Specifically a Marlin 39a rifle and a Ruger Single Six pistol. (No, those aren't the only guns I have.)

I don't know exactly why, but those guns just make me smile.

I have fired a little full auto before, and I'm not denying that all the smoke and noise is fun. It is also wasteful, and totally something I can't do with my current semi-hoarder mentality.

I far prefer to fire one bullet, and have it land right where I wanted it to... and be done with it.

Tough to choose really. SAW, 240B, M2, and MK19 are all pretty fun. If I had to pick, I guess it'd be MK19. Nothing quite like full auto 40 mike mike flying down range

A reproduction New Army (I think)

Not exciting and the guy who had it thought it was funny that I was gah gah over the cheapest gun he owned.

But come on, black powder is fun. I giggled with every shot. If someone ever leaves me alone with one of those things, they'll come back to a dirty gun, no powder, no balls and no caps. Plus, I'll have a black face and big grin... or be begging for more powder, balls and caps. :D

Tough call. Shot a 106mm recoiless once and it was awesome but I think a 4.2 mortar was even better. You can feel the compression in your chest when that goes off. But I was just hanging rounds not controlling it in any way. Both of them are very technical to use correctly. Which takes away from the experience. .50 BMG is really fun, but I think Mk19 is better. The slower rate of fire allows you to anticipate the next glorious 40mm round. And face it anything that has a description of how to shoot that goes "just walk it in" is going to be great.

Ruger 10/22 suppressed open bolt full auto. Made by a friend as a demonstration piece. One quick way to go thru a brick of 22LR.

Most Fun Shooting?

An Olympic grade air pistol, in my own living room, with my wife saying "Coming Through, It's On The Stove If You Want Any!" (God, I love her!)

A rubber-band powered, 1930's to 1960's Sharpshooter pistol that launches #6 birdshot with enough power and accuracy to hunt houseflies at ranges up to 15 feet. Without actually touching their skin through their fur, it will, by touching their fur alone, cause outside cats to totally freak out when they're poaching at our cat's dish.

Spattering the same "big game" of houseflies at 100 yards with my old benchrest guns. When I'm shooting, I can wipe a little fresh dog poo on my wife's target and she never gets bored.

And The Next Gun: A 4-bore. So help me; I've gotta have a 4-bore! Why?
Because a 2-bore would either kick too hard or be too heavy for the Old Man to carry.

Gee I must be boring as the most fun I've had was firing an Uzi clone when our range allowed full auto. Present day my S&W 625 and to attract real attention Shiloh Sharps 1874 Long Range Express with period piece telescopic sight in 45/70.

Ma Deuce at Hunter-Liggett back in the late 60s----we were over there from Ft. Ord. We had a night firing exercise with the .50s shooting at targets out at 1K yards (meters)----distinctly recall seeing the moon rising in the eastern horizon and for just a few crazed moments thinking to myself....."Well, hell, I'll just go ahead and shoot that SOB down!"

We've had some neat stuff here for our annual dove shoot. H&H's .470 NE double rifle is one, it's fun for about two shots. I've fired a few full autos and several suppressed guns, but I think I have more fun with my M1 Garand and M1 Carbine than about anything else.
And The Next Gun: A 4-bore. So help me; I've gotta have a 4-bore!

Army, basic training. Shot BARs really fun. Also Browning
air cooled. Wish I could have shot the water cooled Browning
that they had on the infiltration course. As a civilian we shot
the Smith & Wesson 9MM machine gun that the local police had.
Also shot a MAC 11, that a guy had a permit for, long time ago.
As a small town special cop shot a Thompson, one magazine, and the
Reising machine gun, a few mags', that was used by Marines in WW2.
That was a junky gun that loved to jam. Maybe bad magazines.

Larry, I have fired a four-bore. Thomas Bland & Son, weighed about 18 #. Charge was 385 grains of 1F pushing a 2000 grain conical bullet.

Damn thing broke my collar bone.

It wasn't fun. But that 30 years ago and I can laugh about it now.
