Funny thing happened at Walmart...

In my case it's because I get a 10% discount, and I'm there 40 hours a week anyway.

I just passed my 15 year anniversary, and that's exactly why I'm not a manager. :)

Yes, you do at Walmart. They are supposed to ask. It's pointless now, because we don't sell 'handgun" ammo, but they are supposed to ask for calibers pistols are commonly chambered in-.22 LR and WRM are the only two left, so they will ask for those calibers. Just say rifle. It's easier on everyone.
I have never been asked "rifle/pistol" questions at wal mart and have bought ammo there hundreds of times. I would get ID'd sometimes, other times I didn't. I just want to exchange money for goods, I dont know why it has to be any more complicated than that, when you put policies in place that allow the clerk to make sales at their discretion your bound to run into somebody on a power trip. Not good for business.

I like the old ways, all this high liability, CYA, policies for every nut and bolt style in sales is a big turn off. As for whining about wal mart, yeah I think it's fair to say they screwed us pretty good so I expect to see some grumbling and poor attitudes toward WM for that. They were a regular stop for me to get ammo to pursue my interests and their new policies impacted me negatively. I typically choose to shop elsewhere now, that's how I let them know I dont support them...

For those with a more laxidaisical viewpoint and say "it's their store, their policy, their right" or "too bad, move on". More power to you, I think of it as a loss, yes the sun will rise again and most of us will be no worse for wear but if you really think about it, it's a sign that things are changing in this country. WM was a MAJOR supplier of arms and ammunition to people across this country, losing that is significant. More companies caving to political agendas and more laws restricting our access to G&A is a bad thing. I dont just shrug it off easily. WM is about as mainstream Americana as it gets, removing ammo from their inventory is a major win for anti's.

FWIW, DustyGmt, I don't agree with some of the positions WM has taken either, but I work there, so I shop there. I did pick up a Savage Axis there that will cost a total of $29 after the rebate check comes. And I had to wait an extra day before I could buy it.

Is there still a rebate? You can't beat their prices most of the time which is why I'll continue to shop there.

No I totally get it and dont begrudge anybody who does shop there, besides maybe myself. Given the choice I'd rather support the local gun shop but couldnt really afford to. It was the best place for me to get ammo, they regularly beat online retailers and made my shooting much more economically feasible. I was getting 9mm regularly for around $7 and change per 50. I just know that their shift in policy whether political or not, effects alot of people. You would be surprised how many people I know who have guns dont know that ammo can be purchased online. Like "huh, I didnt think you could get ammo in the mail".

What was the purpose of that reply? Seeing how your reply provided no meaningful contribution to the discussion at hand, I suspect that you were yearning for an opportunity to showcase to the membership here how much of a condescending a*# you are.

In fact, I have known about it over the past 11 months or so. I know it was 11 months because I was in AZ for a course from Sep-Oct 2019 and stopped by a Walmart while I was there; the employees stated that the .223 and all pistol ammo was to be sold by the end of the calendar year. However, Walmart’s did not have a hard mandate to also sell off the .223 rifles by the end of calendar year 2019. And it was recent that employees at my local Walmart stated that the .223 rifles (bolt actions and single shots since they haven’t sold semi .223s for a couple years) were on clearance in July and August because they were being forced to clear out their .223 rifle inventory this summer (2020) in addition to old stock as they receive new stock of non-.223 gun’s this summer.

I’m not a new member here and stupid replies such as your’s won’t make me leave the site as I know that the overwhelming majority of members are good folks.

However, with the recent influx of new gun owners, I’m certain some of them have joined THR and are looking for information. I fear that it would only take one or two unsavory replies such as your’s to dissuade them from THR and/or cause them to conclude that gun guys are a bunch of jerks.

You gave a "fun fact" like it was something new. It's not. New gun owners likely know that Walmart doesn't sell handgun ammo. They figured it out by walking to the counter and asking. Then you ask as a Walmart shareholder about the reason they aren't carrying 223 ammo. Again, come out of the cave. They publicly stated why. It had to do with a mass shooting at a Walmart.

99% of new first time gun owners won't come to this forum. They have NO interest in guns. They panicked and bought one as a magic talisman to protect them against evil. I'd guess half the new gun owners won't fire a box of ammo through their new gun.

Get off that high horse before ya fall.

BTW, it's yours. Not your's.
