I have never been asked "rifle/pistol" questions at wal mart and have bought ammo there hundreds of times. I would get ID'd sometimes, other times I didn't. I just want to exchange money for goods, I dont know why it has to be any more complicated than that, when you put policies in place that allow the clerk to make sales at their discretion your bound to run into somebody on a power trip. Not good for business. In my case it's because I get a 10% discount, and I'm there 40 hours a week anyway.
I just passed my 15 year anniversary, and that's exactly why I'm not a manager.
Yes, you do at Walmart. They are supposed to ask. It's pointless now, because we don't sell 'handgun" ammo, but they are supposed to ask for calibers pistols are commonly chambered in-.22 LR and WRM are the only two left, so they will ask for those calibers. Just say rifle. It's easier on everyone.
I like the old ways, all this high liability, CYA, policies for every nut and bolt style in sales is a big turn off. As for whining about wal mart, yeah I think it's fair to say they screwed us pretty good so I expect to see some grumbling and poor attitudes toward WM for that. They were a regular stop for me to get ammo to pursue my interests and their new policies impacted me negatively. I typically choose to shop elsewhere now, that's how I let them know I dont support them...
