Gander Mountain Offers Exclusive Line of Firearms for Women

Retailer Encourages Participation, Promotes Firearm Safety
October 29, 2007: 06:15 PM EST

ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/-- The latest craze for the hunting enthusiast is now in a bold new color -- pink. In addition to the traditional firearm hues, Gander Mountain stores are now selling an exclusive line of firearms that come in the hot new color for all things outdoor.

While the male sector of the hunting community may stick to more muted colors, the new pink firearms have been welcomed by those who want to add a feminine touch to their shooting practice.

"Women are a growing segment of the outdoors customer, and we want to be able to offer them the products they want, in the colors they like," said Gary Buescher, Vice President for Hunting and Firearms. A 20 GA pink shotgun first hit the shelves last year and sales were strong enough that Gander Mountain decided to add a wider selection of pink firearms.

In addition, Buescher notes they are seeing more and more girls attending hunter safety courses with their parents.

"Girls are actively participating in family hunting traditions, but some may want to have a little more fun with it by getting a pink shotgun," said Buescher. The junior shotgun offered is made specifically for the young beginner, while the pink pistols offered are for adults.

Gander Mountain, with 115 stores in 23 states is the number one retailer providing firearm safety courses. To find out more about classes offered at your local store, see http://www.gandermountain.com

For those looking for their own new pink firearm for the fall hunting season, Gander Mountain currently offers a selection of five exclusive pink firearms:

Remington(R) 870(TM) Junior 20-Ga. Pink Shotgun
Remington(R) Model 597(TM) 22LR with Pink Laminate Stock

Um, why do women need pink guns?

This was thought up by the same marketing genius that decided the disposable Bic razor could sell for $1.00 more as the pink "Lady Bic," wasn't it?

I'd totally carry a pink gun. Imagine how silly the prosecutor would look talking about how evil the gun and defendant are while holding a pink Taurus Mil Pro.

EPRs!! I can see it now.
my wife picked up on of the Remington 20ga last time we were at gander mountain. she shouldered it and said, "well, it fits me pretty good, if only it wasn't pink." I directed her towards the other youth models, and all was well.
the quip on the stock is a nice touch though.
"shoot like a girl, if you can..."

Thats just so sexist...What if I wanted a pink gun, am I a woman now?:p

My girlfriend said she wants a pink gun for christmas...So thats what she's getting. I don't care what color it is, as long as she shows interest in guns/shooting.

Bazooka Joe71 has got it right. You guys should be CELEBRATING the fact that someone is marketing guns to women! If it takes a bright pink gun to take the "scariness" out of shooting, so be it! I know my girlfriend will be bugging me for one if she sees it. Only talked her out of a cricket because of how tiny it was.

Later,
Chrome...

chrome, watch it. a girl/women who is properly introduced to shooting sports should not need a pink gun to get over the "scariness" of it. pink guns are a novelty. thats what makes them fun. truth be told, i do prefer black. it was dad who wanted the green fn p90. i could have cared less.

Um, why do women need pink guns?

Ummm.....

Why do they need 5 different colors of purses?

A 90 year old chunk of wood may be my preference for a stock, but if all it takes is to replace that with pink plastic to get women interested, I say go for it.

Kind of weird. Every Gander Mountain I been into ignores women anyway. Especially the local one in Moorseville, NC. So far I know of a number of sales it has cost them.

I am sure that they will be charging 20% over normal retail prices

Do they think they're selling to the government?

On the same lines as the prosecutor joke above, imagine the look on a BG's face when he's being taken to the hospital with bullet wounds from a pink gun.

lol my gf just told me tonight at gander mtn that if i was to get an ar15 she wants a purple gun. Completely PURPLE. Odd thing is... I'm planning on buying a gun for her. Unfortunately I got the why do you need a rifle question again....

I think you GUYS are forgetting that these guns are being marketed to WOMEN. My wife saw a pink pistol when we bought her .38 special and if it had been a better gun she would have bought it. I have no idea why this even bothers any of you.

OK guys,

It's all a matter of personal taste. In my short time on earth I've heard arguments about sidearm grips (wood v. plastic.) Rifle scopes, caliber, carbine v. rifle. 12 ga v. 20 ga etc. etc ad nausem.

If someone is attracted to a pink handgun as long as they are willing to obey the common sense rules and enjoy shooting the thing more power to them. To me it's refreshing that the arms companies are finally getting out of the Ford era (any color as long as it's black) and offering choices now.

Personnally, I like a deep rich blue but if it protects the weapon from rust I'd go with pink, indigo or polka dots. (Provided it shot straight enough that Bambi's mother could become tomorrow's dinner. )

Fuchsia is the new pink so let me get two .45 ACP semi automatic Smith & Wesson 4506's, in a dual shoulder holster like Denzel had in Training Day & King Kong ain't got nothing on me!!!

Nothing more pathetic than a bunch of corporate guys trying to figure out what women want.....

If they really want to appeal to women, have WOMEN design and shoot the gun. Have Julie Goloski or I Ling Nu design and market a firearms series toward women. Nothing motivates women more than seeing another woman use a product designed by a woman....

As for colors and firearms....I'm all for it. Tactical black is boring and stands out more than you think. Taurus had a good thing with the finishes on the Total Titanium series of revolvers (wish they could do them on steel), and the polymer pistols in green, brown, and tan are a lot easier to conceal than stark black. Plus you look cool at the range when you break out a neon-colored gun.... :D

Women....next thing you know they'll want equal pay and they'll be runnin' for President.:what:

Seen it comin in dirt bikin a few years back. Pink and powder blue motocross gear. Dirty girls in pink and green camo. Don't know why they just don't stay in the kitchen with the kids.:D

Hi buck460XVR

Don't know why they just don't stay in the kitchen with the kids.

Too start I will act like I haven't taken offense to this atrocity.

Now, kitchen and kids stopped about 1861 when all the men left to preserve the Union and SOMEBODY had to stay home and do the work most men wouldn't do when they were home anyway. Fast forward to 1939, once more the draft raised it's head and men were in short supply, as always when the men run out the women went to work in the farms, factories and in some cases even the guarding of POWS kept in the United States.

When the men got home... By golly they earned that money and if the men didn't like they could go back to Europe or the Pacific... In short... Franklin Roosevelt and Abe Lincoln are who you need to blame.

Wes is right..... :cuss:

{megaphone voice} Alright, buck. Drop the tongue and step out of the cheek slowly. Keep your humor above your head where we can see it. If you try to go for the cheap laugh, you will be FUMEGATED..... {/megaphone voice}

Lighten up, my friend..... :D
