But....but.....black is in STYLE! :neener:

The only pink gun I've ever wanted was a little PT22 with pink grips. Everybody has bad-mouthed the guns so much I decided to save my money, but I still think they're cute.

All of mine are either stainless or Evil Black, except for the rifles that have wood stocks. I'd shoot myself before I'd paint my Remington 700 *any* color.

Slapping pink onto an item to make a "girl's version" is definitely clunky marketing.

Hopefully it will start a discussion on how to do a better job of marketing guns to women. I am guessing some sort of training or women-only introductory presentations with a Q&A session at Gander Mountain would be a good next step.

But I think attracting a whole new bunch of people to the shooting sports is a phenomenal idea.

"But....but.....black is in STYLE!"

black gets old after a while. that why me 'n dad got the green FN P90. he just bought a green sling to match!
remember, many men are fashion consious as well!

Why is pink so bad? I've seen pink Yankee hats, pink Husker shirts, pink Converse Chuck Taylors... Women like pink (and some men too). Is it a crime that they can buy a gun in a color besides black, grey, or camo?

I know that everyone on the highroad is "above" such low brow marketing. And we all hate beer ads with bikini-clad women and truck ads with rough & tumble mountain men.

Jeez, and some of you complain about all black guns as too tacticool, wood stocks as too Fudd, and polished stainless as too flashy. Some of you need to get over yourselves.

"we all hate beer ads with bikini-clad women"

but can we have beer adds with muscles and swim trunks as well?
please? mmmmmm.......beer!

side note: over a hundred posts already! i talk to much...

Attached is an article from the front page of Harrisburg's Patriot News Business section . . .

The manager of our local Gander Mountain, a young woman, donated over 150 gift cards for the event. They supported us.

We saw nearly 50 women come out from the local Chamber of Commerce "Women in Business Roundtable" committee. I'm glad to see the market trying to respond. Give it some time. First comes recognizing the opportunity . . . The fact they got manufacturers to do this is a pretty big step.

I would like to see one of the pistol, shotgun or rifle manufacturers take a page from the S&W "Ladysmith" approach. Build a gun that is actually designed with women for women.

Ski manufacturers did this same exact thing for years. They slapped "girly" colors and the word "Woman" on skis and boots originally designed for men.

K2 established a whole new line of T:9 Women Specific skis. Designed by women for women. They are now selling a lot of $500+ skis - and some of them are pink:). Most of the women skiers I know ski on these now.

I'd be more excited about this idea if Ladysmiths weren't too small for my hands....

However, I agree with one previous poster who suggested that some of the top women shooters getting involved in design and production would be incredibly cool.

As for black, see, the thing is, it makes me look thinner... :neener:

Just as long as nobody, but NOBODY, ever produces a Browning HiPower in pink. :D

This weekend, I put together a new 20" AR, using a Cav Arms MkII lower. You want to guess what color the polymer lower and handguards are? They're baby blue. I got plenty of grief about it all weekend, too.

But, I'm sure I can shoot it just as well as any of my other AR's. Oh, wait, I only own one other AR, the rest are M-16's. Like I told those guys, that rifle will kill someone just as dead as their black ones. The only difference is mine will do it quietly, because it has a suppressor on the end.

I also got grief last weekend at a local watering hole, because I was drinking a Woodchuck Granny Smith Apple Cider. Like I told them, I like the taste, and it was what I was in the mood for at the time.

I have no need to prove my manhood to anybody. Not over choices in alcoholic beverages, or in choices of rifle colors. I've proven myself time and time again, in the areas where it counts. Just like I've told people before: "I lost my left testicle to cancer in '97. I may be half the man I used to be, but I'm still twice the man you'll ever be." A real man doesn't need to insult another over something as asinine as the color of his rifle. Doing so is juvenile and ridiculous. It's even worse when that man picks it up and outshoots you with it, and then outshoots you with your own rifle.

In the near future, Oleg is getting a pink rifle from CavArms. I fully intend to pose for pictures with it for him. I hope he uses them.

"As for black, see, the thing is, it makes me look thinner..."

hmmmmm.... "dad! does this ak make me look fat?"

honestly? who really cares what color it is as long as it does the job its intended for. any colored gun, is for the fun and the style factor, so if you have fun shooting it, then have fun.
as for the sexist argument. it all comes down to the person who said "hey, lets slap pink on a gun and sell it to women 'cause all women want a pink gun" thats the person you wanna smack upside the head. as for the ladies and gentlemen buying one, well, they wanna pink gun. whoop-de-do. if i had the money, and they made a model i wanted, yeah sure, why not? stuff marketed to women, throughout the ages, has always been a bit of a touchy subject, because usually its men marketing to a demigraphic that they don't understand. as for guns and ladies, i think as the population of female shooters grows, so will the stuff marketed to ladies. after a while the companies will see whats selling and whats not selling and manufactur accordingly.
so, how do we encourage the change? encourage female shooters and female gun enthusists world wide!

RKBA Bob ~

Cavalry Arms does colored furniture for the AR. Used to have a real rainbow of colors, not sure if they're still doing that or not. Friend of mine had a sweet set up with candy-apple red furniture & matching range gear.

They're either doing them now, or getting ready to start doing them again in the future, I believe. They sent Oleg some pink M4 furniture recently, and I believe there are a couple of lowers (pink and blue, I believe) sitting in a box at my shop, waiting for me to go to work tomorrow.

I'd be more excited about this idea if Ladysmiths weren't too small for my hands....

Another essential problem with "just for women" stuff--it is invariably too small! I haven't tried a Ladysmith, but I have a very nice framed backpacking pack designed for women that gave me some fun pinched nerves after a couple days' wear--straps are designed for smaller, narrow-shouldered women. I'm, um, not.

I really screwed up on my first shotgun purchase because I knew nothing about fit and the folks I talked to all said that as a woman, I'd need a youth-size gun. Um, nope.

Pink or any other color is fine, although I'll never own a pink gun. But this business of "Now (all of a sudden!) there are guns for women!" is irksome. The pink guns aren't bad, but the marketing that implies that women can't shoot until we have a pretty pink gun really irks me. Yeah, I know it's not all like that, but a lot of it is.

We saw the pink Glocks at Gander last weekend. The "expert" behind the counter said "it's what women want". My wife told him they didn't look real.

He started to talk to her like she didn't know anything. She just held her hand up to stop him and said "I'll stick with my Subcompact Springfield, Sig and Kahr, thanks."

He go the deer in the headlights look on his face. We looked at a very overpriced Walther P22 and left.

Just...can't...help...myself...

Well...That's because the black ones don't look real either.

OK - seriously. Glocks DID usher in a whole new marketing wave of "unreal"-looking guns. And all sorts of creativity around triggers.

At least this whole deal is getting the Gander Mountain folks, customers and all of us to talk about what Women like and don't like in guns. At least a little more interesting than 9mm vs 45 and Glock vs 1911.

Damnit, when will y'all quit worrying about women vs. men? They're just people, with different plumbing. Let 'em get what they want, and be glad they're at the range with you, rather than complaining about how much money you waste on ammo.

I count myself very lucky in having a girlfriend who not only loves shooting, but actually lets me use her guns, instead of claiming mine. :) And if she wanted pink, I'd either buy it, or break out the Krylon if the factory wouldn't listen.

But might she not want something bigger than a youth model and a better fit than the regular model? Even Goldilocks and the Bears had three choices.

That pink Taurus got me to thinking....

Why not do a pistol/holster combo in a flesh-colored tone (in ALL shades)? That might help a lot on the warm-weather concealment issue......

I don't know about pink...but I'd go for a bright blue or kelly green for a range gun. After seeing these grips, I'm tempted to go out and get a Beretta 92 just to get the grips....

HA! Only sissy boys like Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett and Jim Bridger drink cider!!!! :neener:

(hey...that stuff sounds good. where can I find that cider?.....)

Why does it matter what color a gun gets made in? I do not care if it is pink purple, blue, gold or puke yellow. If it gets more people or WOMEN into shooting I am all for it.
