The idea of pink guns (or any other color) is not a new idea. Nor is the idea
of pink hammers, drills, tweezers, kitchen knives, or any other tool. It is
marketing nonsense designed to extract additional money from the wallets
of those unable to discern (or who buy on impulse).

The people who would comprise the market for such objects are people
who, in my opinion, never really wanted/needed the object in the first place,
and would stuff it in the back of their closet and forget about it. It sounds
like a fad to me, like parachute pants, and will be gone 2 years after it
starts.

Who the heck would want a pink gun in the first place? The women I know
would be really turned off at the idea, and might even view it as insulting.

The same people who want pink bicycles, pink skateboards and pink clothes. Girls and Women (and guys I suppose) who like pink.

Gander Mountain and the manufacturers should donate part of the pink gun sales to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation

My point is that there is a reason most tools are not available in a wide
variety of colors. Seen a pink mitre saw lately? How about a
pink winch ?

Also, I'm not sure marketing a very serious object like a gun by changing its
color in order to appeal to class of folks who would never otherwise buy
one is a really good idea.

I have no problem with a pink gun...it is true it would be funny to see what would happen in court though :D

But I have a mix of black and stainless guns. If I have to pull a gun out, I want the offender to know I have a gun, and not crack up in laughs :D

Though I don't find anything funny about a pink gun, they'll make a bad guy just as dead as any other ;)

Why in the world do you find it necessary to insult anyone who would want a pink gun...? Seriously, why??

(Someday I'm going to own one -- a pink-and-black Glock with engraving on it. Matching muffs and rose-colored glasses, too. And a pretty range bag instead of a boring black one that looks like every other bag anyone has ever taken to the range. But I'm not a serious shooter, and would probably burst into tears after I fired it. )

The motorcycle apparel companies finally figured out that marketing to women involves more than taking men's gear and coloring it pink. It's like they realized we are shaped differently. Unfortunatly, they usually decide I want pastel colors, too.

Maybe gun manufacturers will one day realize that I have much smaller hands than the average man and adjust some of their guns accordingly. How about practical differences instead of cosmetic ones?

Oh, and I hate pink. :scrutiny:

pax, I can't find the part where I said I would 'find it necessary to
insult anyone who would want a pink gun.' I think you may have misread
my post.

"Seriously, the type of woman who would buy a pink gun is likely to be the
same kind of woman would buy it, take it to the range, shoot it once, cry,
and then immediately turn around and take it back and demand a full refund."

a women who wants a pink gun would probably find this offensive and insulting. i'm not sure how that can be misread....

What, a whole thread about Gander's pink guns, and nobody bothered to post a picture?

As for me, I think its pretty! In fact, I might just show this to the wife.

Humans have been decorating and beautifying their tools since the dawn of time. Feathers on a cave man's war club... Engraving on Roman swords... Ornate brasswork on a flintlock pistol... Burled walnut grip panels on a 1911... Pearlite stocks on a J-frame.... and now, the culmination of 10,000 years of evolution... the PINK TAURUS!

Compared to centuries past, modern guns are rather ugly! Sorry, but its true.

Maybe its a bit condescending toward female shooters, especially the way its marketed, but at least Taurus had the guts to try something different.

Now if we can only get a gunmaker to offer something with a manly tartan plain engrained into the polymer...

Deep down I believe you should be able to buy a fluorescent orange auto AK with a
spongy teal stock and hot pink banana mags with your half-caf double
carmel macchiato with soy milk in the morning.

Its just that the pink guns thing set off my "sexist gimmick" sensory inputs.

don't worry, whited, it gets me too. when it comes to colors, lets get unisex. personally, i would much rather have a baby blue gun then a pink (ugh) gun. and i like the idea of tarten. green and blue please!

by the by, RKBABob, i think you would be very manly with that lil' pink tarus!:neener:

Yeah, I hear that.

Thing is though, it's just as limiting to be told you can't be girly as it is to be told you must be girly. :)

Me? I'd like to think I've finally gotten secure enough in my shooting ability that I don't need to use boring black gear and dress in 511 pants simply to prove my right to be on the range with the guys. (More power to the classic-black crowd, though. Room enough for all of us...)

I'm sure my girlfriend would just love a little .22 with a stock by Vera Wang. Actually she is more into the .45 in stainless. I don't think this one will be buying a pink gun anytime soon.

If pink guns are a problem, then I have a problem with guys that put digital camo on their guns. I think pink guns are a good step especially if this marketing ploy works to get more women interested in shooting. Honestly fellas, how many women do you see at the range? Don't you think it's a problem that there aren't many women shooters out there? We need all the friends we can get and to break the stereotype of guns being "masculine" is all for the better.

But really, I think they would have more success if they teamed up with something like Coach/Burberry/Insert other fancy brand, and put their purse patterns onto the gun. Imagine seeing women everyday who opened carried their pistols not only as a means of personal protection but as a fashion statement! Hah. Maybe in my little fantasy land.
