the what got you into firearms thread got me thinking, are there more or less people in the younger generation that got into firearms because of outside influances then the older generations.
i have a bit of a grasp of the relative ages of some members of this forem. i noticed that more of the folks in my generation got into firearms because something happened or the media, rather then like the older generations, who have more examples of "well, my dad/grandpa had guns".
are more people these days being raised without firearms, or are there still a good portion of us for whom firearms were a fact of life?
so my poll has 3 age ranges (this is a very broad poll) and three reasons. ages is simple enough, but for clarities sake i will define my thoughts on the other three...
Fact of Life- you grew up with guns in the household for either defensive, hunting or collecting purposes. Part of growing up was learning about the firearms and how to use them. this also includes those who had grandparents/relatives who took them hunting or shooting at an early age, as a regualar activitie.
Defensive Purposes- Firearms were purchased as an adult because either something happened to you or a friend or you read about attacks/crimes and felt that you needed a means of self defense. This includes those who had a change of heart (if you will) after attacks like 911, VT and Omaha.
Media/Friend- you saw it on t.v and wanted one. or a friend or an organization (like boyscouts) or as an adult, encouraged you to try. i also think someone who just said "well that looks cool" and started shooting to belong in this catogory.
i relize that some of the members could belong to multiple catagories so i will limit this to your first real exposer and intrest. Basically, what came first? if your answer is non of the above, please write about it.
