Plaxico Burress Is An Idiot

Plaxico Burress is a complete moron and any/all time he spends behind bars is time that folks in the area wherein he resides are safer.

There should be a different condition heirarchy for guns that weren't designed 100 years ago. Carrying condition 0 with a glock is perfectly safe (internal safties, striker at half-cock, heavy trigger). Doing so with a 1911 probably isn't (no safety on, hammer at full cock, light trigger).

While that may seem intuitively true, due to the differential in trigger weight and trigger travel, it's really not true. First, as the man says, it's got a grip safety. Secondly, even if it had a hair trigger, the gun can NOT go off if it's in the holster and if the holster fully covers the trigger guard.

"What is it, Nurse?" "It's a case of 'Glock Leg', doctor." - new term, tee hee. :p :D

Honestly, I dont see the glock as less safe than the 1911.
I see people who ASSume it is safer and relax their attention.
Follow proper procedures and you should have no issues with either.

The 1911 has the thumb AND grip safeties.
There are WAY to many cases of glock leg to call it perfectly safe.

Jim

I haven't heard of this as being a problem specific to Glock.

I spend a fair amount of time on Glocktalk. This Plaxico case is one of two cases I can recall of someone negligently shooting themselves. Just about everybody on Glocktalk carries with one in the chamber and a reliable holster, unlike Plaxico's carry method. You'd think we'd hear about more ND stories if what you said is true. You make it sound like shooting oneself is automatic with a Glock. Maybe you are thinking of the "Professional Enough" case and multiplied that case in your head (?). I intentionally didn't go with a 1911 platform because the safety mechanism provides a false sense of security. Flame away.

I carry condition 2, with a CZ 2075 RAMI 9mm. The hammer is 'half cocked'

SP-01/P-01/RAMI guys will know what I mean.;)

To the OP. I would bring up to your friend that if you do need your handgun, chances stand your support hand is already busy fending off the aggressor.

That's the most common example I give to people to explain why I carry the way I do.

I gave this example to my friend last night.

"What if there was a frantic man, outside my front door, clearly in agonising pain, calling for help as I was returning from work."

"The right thing to do would call 911 and comfort him. Now imagine this seemingly hurt man springs up after me with a knife, screaming he'll cut me."

"I do not/will not have the time or ability to dedicate two hands to loading/making ready my firearm. It needs to go bang right now, as I sacrifice my support hand for my internal organs sake."

And there are SO many situations that can begin like this, it's easy enough to find one that applies to your friend.:)

Condition 2 for me

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I carry my Uzi Eagle condition 2. It is a single/double action so there is no need to stress the hammer spring.

Hammer spring stress is a myth, keep it cocked 'n' locked and don't worry(if you prefer), the springs are designed to 'set' and still have enough oomph to last more than your life time.

The holster you choose has so much to do with carry safety, especially with Glocks and other trigger safety based pistols. If you buy a cheap IWB holster made of thin leather it doesn't take much of a fall to bump that trigger.
