For the past few months or so i've been looking at, reading about and thinking about guns almost constantly. My girlfriend seeing this sudden appearance of a renewed fascination was at first alarmed, but after some explaining about why i was looking at guns and why i thought they were interesting she realized that i wasn't going crazy. I hope. Then out of the blue today she surprised me by not only suggesting that we go to the gun range, but that she pay. Having asked some people on here what a good intro gun would be for her, we rented a Ruger Mark II and bought fifty shells. At first she had a bit of trouble hitting the target but after a little instruction on the proper grip and stance she began to hit it consistently, even making a nice little five shot group in the ten ring on maybe her third or fourth clip. I just mostly wanted to thank everyone here who helped me pick what sort of gun she should start with, because she seemed to enjoy herself and i know that I certainly did. I mean come on a pretty girl who not only goes to the range with me but pays?:)

no problem...

she seemed to enjoy herself and i know that I certainly did

And that's what it's all about, get out there and shoot. Take someone else shooting and make sure that they have a good time... (or have them take YOU)

Good Job.

What is wrong with you? 50 rounds?
Kidding! Glad the both of you had a good time. I am an old time shooter and one of my biggest joys is bringing new shooters to the range.

haha sorry i forgot to add that we ended up buying an additional 150 rounds. But even then we were just starting to have fun, but it was getting a little late and we were getting hungry.

Any time you can get reaction like that, count it as a successful day at the range! And you stopped at the right time...didn't try to stay too long. No burn out means she'll be ready to go again soon! cool.
Mark.

Ah, I can share your joy MikePGS. My girlfriend also suggested that she and I go shooting sometime, and luckily I am prepared with my own 25 yard .22 shooting range, a bolt-action and semi-auto .22 as well as a .22 pistol.

Now if I could only find time to shoot with her!!!!!

(That's when you KNOW you're busy!!!!)

we rented a Ruger Mark II

Ya gotta love that little Ruger for teaching newbies. I have the Anniversary model and a Taurus 94 stainless 9 shot revolver for this reason. Plus, they're just a joy to shoot. :)

You'll know she's a convert when she tells you that:

(a) .22 rounds are not "shells;" and

(b) those metal thingies that hold the "cartridges" are called "magazines," not "clips."

right right:p Interestingly, the gun kept doublefeeding for some odd reason. I think it did this twice. The gun would rack back a little bit after shooting and there would be two CARTRIDGES :))) in the receiver. And an additional time there was an empting casing jammed in there and still two in the receiver.
From what i've heard these are a pain to clean, so maybe they people at the gun shop just decided to let it go for awhile without being cleaned properly? Either way its a very nice gun and i wouldn't mind owning one in the future.

Oh yeah, my girlfriend also thinks that pistols are "cute."

Even my 6" bbl taurus .357 magnum is "cute" to her! Hmmm....I should make her shoot it  :what:

:) a .22 is great for her to start out on. thats what my boyfriend started me out on. now i love guns and hunting. i shot my first deer this year with a 270! hopefully you can get her into hunting too. and you neaver know she can become a better shot than you! so dont make her mad! :)

Ahh, spring in the air

As the man said
Ain't nothin' finer than a fine . . . lady holding a gun.
You didn't call her your "fiance."

Well, when it gets to that point, it might be fun for her to find a little bit of carbon and gold resting in her box of lead and brass.

Good for you for explaining things in such a way that *she* decided to go shooting. Nicely down.

Don't hold the malfunctions against the gun design. Most rental guns aren't cleaned very often and are used very hard.

I see a lot more young women at the range now then I did say 30 years ago. And most of them are shooting pistols. I should add that some of them shoot pretty darn good too.
