I took my Glock 17 and XD-9 to the range this evening and shot them side by side with the same ammo.

I just started using the Glock 17 for IDPA stock service pistol competition. The XD-9 can't be used in that category, so it is my home defense pistol for now. They are both stock, about the same age and have had about the same number of rounds through them. BTW, both have been completely reliable with all different brands and types of ammo.

I shot 5 rounds from each several times. I consistently shot the G17 slightly low and to the left. I shot the XD to the center of the target. I shot my G19 the same when I had it - slightly low and left. I shoot my GI .45 and GP100 to the center also.

Anybody know why I shoot the Glocks so different? :banghead:

Why can't the XD be used in competition?

i believe it has something to do with how the the trigger works for use in that particular category--its considered single action or something like that?

Because IDPA has already been taken over by gamers--not shooters. :)

The XD-9 can be used in the ESP division of IDPA if not in SSP like the Glock. Check the IDPA rule book on their web site. I think the XD is a SSP pistol.

low and left.. the most frequent accuracy compliant by right-handed Glock shooters..

you have got to ensure you are pulling the trigger straight back with the Glock..it is very sensitive to this.. do some dry-fire practice and when the striker is released look what happens to the front sight.. with a proper trigger pull it shouldn't move..no bounce, no wobble, it must be dead still.. that is the trigger pull you aim for..there is a legendary thread on Glocktalk covering this started by Neo Aldred, I think it is now in the FAQ, check it out..good stuff!!

I went to the range today and shot the G17 for accuracy. I shot a bullseye the first shot! My successive shots were not all bullseyes, but I did shoot much better after really concentrating, tightening my grip, focusing on the front sight and squeezing the trigger carefully. Most of my shots were not low and left this time.

There is nothing wrong with my G17, the sights or my reloads. The problem lies with me. I guess every gun has a different grip and unique trigger. If I could quit anticipating recoil I would about have it.

I still think it is weird that I can shoot my other guns more easily and accurately than the G17 so far. This is not to bash Glocks. I like 'em all!

The XD fits nicely into ESP. I shoot mine in ESP and don't feel I'm at a disadvantage

i wish i heard that at my club xd shooters cry about not being able to shoot ssp when i bring the sti commander

As an everyday shooter, I prefer the Glock. I have shot a few XD's and found the trigger pulls to be a little on the looooong side whereas the Glock tends to be very short & consistent.
