last, the xds chamber is more supported than the glocks. If you have a case failure your better off with the xd.

A 9 mm kaboom? Please... :barf:

Show me the 9 mm Full-Auto or 10 mm XD? :scrutiny:

I didn't think so! ;)

I'd get an XD9. Brand new with a case, 2 16 round mags, holster, and mag holster for $530.

You can buy 33 rounds for the XD (midway).

The XD has much stronger rails.

The XD has a much heavier slide (more accuracy).

The glock is a good gun. Kind of like an AK. The glock and the AK will both go boom everytime you pull the trigger. The xd does this as well, but IMO is the more refined weapon.

The XD has much stronger rails.

Forgive me, but the last XD I examined had plastic rear rails, vs. the Glock's steel. Has this changed?

Glocks are VERY cheap to make but expensive to buy. All you need to know.

Well there it is--the whole thing unraveled! Thanks, Man! :D

my first real pistol was an xd and i now own 2 and more in the future i wouls say go with the xd, but if ammo prices are gonna be a big deal for you then i would say go with the 9mm model 17

I still find it funny (funny hmmm rather than funny ha ha) that most comparisons start Glock vs every one else --
I'd go w/ the standard -- go Glock

go with the Glock. you will love it.i had a xd-45. i just sold it and bought another Glock. BOOYAH !

I vote the XD.

If you really think you need aftermarket stuff the Glock would be the better option as far as Thousands of acessories, but the XD in 45 is is a fantastic gun and is growing in aftermarket options I got the XD 45 Tactical, and love it it is an amazing pistol, oh yah and it is 45 ACP!!

yes, it does, but the slide rides on the main rail block, the rear rails are to guide and are not stressed..

unlike the metal inserts in the Glock's frame..

which are both very viable ways of doing the same thing..

and just as you may think the Glock is the way to go, i prefer the XD..

it's the same thing, only different..

While I generally shoot my XD45 better (well, more accurately, at least) than I do my 9mm Glocks, I’d recommend the Glock 17 in this instance as a first or only pistol. I also generally prefer .45 acp, but even hand loading this caliber is getting too expensive for me. The 9mm is relatively inexpensive to shoot, always available, and appears to be plenty effective with the right loads.

Grip is so subjective that I can’t make a real recommendation, and unless you have very unusual hands you’ll be able to adapt well to the XD45 or the 9mm Glocks. For me, my G34 (I think same grip frame as the G17) definitely felt the most awkward at first, and still doesn’t feel as nice as say a CZ75, 1911, any XD or even my G19 in my hand. It is nothing a few thousand rounds couldn’t cure. Even the oft-cited “pointability” concern is eliminated with enough practice.

But my recommendation is primarily due to caliber, NOT for any performance reasons. If you were choosing between 9mm versions of both makes, I’d say it’s more of a toss-up. Glocks have better availability of factory and aftermarket parts. I like the XD ergos better.

they are both good guns. pick the one that fits your hands the best.in order to shoot well, a handgun has to fit you.

Understood.

To tell the truth, I've not heard of any slide rail failure with either gun!

The XD's I shot were slick, and I noticed that the packaging and marketing were nicely executed. I did like the grip! But I do like the low center of gravity, in the hand, that the Glock offers.

I came close to buying a Sig P229 Equinox. Man, what a sexy gun! It felt Glock-like in my hands, and I loved the sights! But it's a pricey little devil! Oh, I could buy it... But I just don't see the real-world value at that price.

The XD's are attractively priced. ;)

Do you mean the frame rails that the slide rides on? Well-known weakness in the Glock if you have a serial number that starts with an E. Also commonly called the "E-series non-recall".

And yes, I HAVE broken a frame rail on a Glock. Not an easy thing to do, as it was after about 7500-8000 rounds, more than most users will put through a pistol in a lifetime.

Still, I would recommend Glock, and twice after dealing with their customer service.

Next up: Good 1911 in .45 ACP. Sweetness in a shooting platform! ;)

Practice costs

Since it's your second gun, you'll want to practice alot. With current ammo prices, you'll save literally hundreds buying 9mm vs 45. Plus, with less recoil, the Glock will be easier/more pleasant to shoot.

Glock 17 (or any Glock) because you can buy dozens of after-market items for it, including barrels, etc. SA XD is an awesome pistol, say a 9 on a 10 point scale, but a Glock is about a 9.1 on the same scale. Also, the ammo for the 9mm will be lower cost.

Question, have you looked at the G21SF? How about the G30SF?

To me it sounds like a Ford vs. Chevy deal. If it were me, go to an indoor range that has both that you can test fire, then pick which one feels better to you. Everyone is gonna argue their point. Only you can pick it man. I personally like the feel of both, but I personally like the .40 SW cartrage; more knock down power than the 9 and more controllable than the .45. I can say that because I have a Glock 19 and a 1911, and my dad has a Glock 22. I like my dads Glock for over all weight/feel. But I almost bought an XD 40, didn't have the cash at that instance, because I loved the feel. SO, you need to try them both out and pick, just my opinion.

Yeah, I think it all comes down to how it feels in you hand. I'm pretty sure that CZ took a mold of my hand at some point, & then designed their 75's around that mold. Like a glove! :)

I had a Glock 17 years ago. Traded it off. Not a damn thing wrong with that pistol except that I hated how it felt in my hand. I was reasonably accurate with it, but it just wasn't comfortable. I don't like Ruger semi-autos for the same reason, & sold a Sig 239 'cause the balance felt "off" in my hand also.

I tried out a 4" XD 9 the other day & loved it. Not saying that it's a better pistol than a Glock, but it just felt right in my hand. I'll be grabbin' one soon!

Try em both out. Pick what feels best.

I own a G34 (same as the G17, just a tad longer slide) and a XD 5" 45. Both shoot very similar, dissemble virtually the same, are extremely reliable and easy to use, have good accuracy, etc.

The big difference (other then caliber) between the 2? The XD does has a slightly different grip compared to the glock.

Either gun is a good pick, and you cant go wrong either way. The big thing you need to decide on is caliber.

I own a G19 and an XD45.

Love my Glock but the XD is superior. Better round and better ergonomics.

I am not selling my Glock but I am not buying any more either.

Try them all and then decide.

I've owned almost every brand of semi-auto and have settled on Glock. Sure they are not perfect, but they do everything I need and accessories are readily available.

Glock 17 hands down for me.

Plus 9mm will be cheaper to shoot.

All these folks saying that 9mm is cheaper are correct. It is also not near as good of a defensive round as 45acp.

If this is just a plinking toy that only kills paper 9mm is fine.

If you want a weapon to protect yourself and your family, get the 45.

That's why our cops carry 9 mm and .40 S&W almost exclusively.

Ammo has evolved--get with the times!

You won't hear too many crooks say, "Whew! It's only a 9mm!" :neener:

If you really care enough to send the best, send 10 mm!
