Blackadder ....

If you grew up in Athens (one of my favorite towns in the world... UGA grad here!) I know where you got your Glocks.. Franklins or the range store. I am wondering if I know you .... dont happen to have any affiliation with a local downtown bar do you?

G19

Well, I'd vote G19, and here's why...

I've been trying my darnedest to find a better option than the G19. I guess I feel the need to be different. I own or have owned several pistols that "feel better" when holding them in my hand (M&P full size .40, CZ 75 P-01, CZ75B, SIG 239). While the CZs and the SIG are more accurate pistols, the G19 beat them all at the range in medium to rapid fire. I'm not all that good, so "rapid" for me is probably slow for a lot of you guys :D .

The G19 feels pretty good in my hand, just a little odd with the grip angle....but on the range, it proves itself in the results. It seems to allow me to lock my wrist better, and have a very consistent grip on the pistol. And that "spongy" feeling trigger....is consistent with a very positive and short reset. It begs to be shot fast.

All that to say...what a gun "feels" like in the store doesn't always translate to the range. Try to put as many rounds through both if it's possible for you. Oddly enough, I'm not as consistent with the full size Glocks.

M&P for the win! i own the .40 and love it. i can hit a 5" wide tall piece of steel with mine at 100 yds, so i know its very accurate. all the glocks around here magically started costing the same as the M&P after they came out.

How 'bout them Dawgs!

I did buy a couple from Franklin's, but I usually deal with Shuler's in Gainesville, GA.

I ended all associations with bars downtown when I graduated, but never had any affiliations other than loyal patron;) .

I still get to the Georgia Theater now and again if there's a good band playing.

The Glock 19 is the Original, every other polymer gun is trying to be a Glock

This comment is the same as saying every Assault rifle is trying to be an AK, every SMG is trying to be the Thompson, or every Anti-armor rocket is trying to be a Bazooka. It's simply not true. There is a diversity of design despite the fact that form follows function. Glock made a polymer gun, which was more affordable, has fewer parts, and has incredible reliability, compared to say, a 1911 (not knocking, just saying. I like 1911's).
As far as polymer frame, the japanese basicly began the plastic car revolution. In 1975, less than 20% of cars had plastic bodies (haven't checked that, but how many 1975 plastics have you seen?) Now, less than 20% of cars have metal bodies. Point is, with the plasics evolving and embedding themselves further into our lives, it was only a matter of time before someone made a successful polymer frame gun. Remove Glock from history and there would have been someone else.

S&W has developed a polymer frame gun that is extremely well recieved by almost everyone who has fired one. This should be commended, and anyone that has the opportunity should try one, rather than sticking to brand only.
I'm interested in finding out what the original poster went with and how he likes it, since it's been almost 4 months since the post.

Adder,
Shulers is a good store... nice people and great prices. Ahh the Georgia Theater... the worst beer in the world served by the smelliest people while listenting to sometimes great but usually mediocre music. God I miss that town.

Well the vote is something like 26 for Glock and 15 for the M&P, with a few on the fence and a couple of "other" votes (Springfield guys). My first choice is that you buy both and then do a range report!

M&P all the way!

My M&P 9mm is one of the best pistols I have....
Some advice, is try whatever ones you like, and see what "suites" you better.

Although I think you will be PLEASANTLY surprised by the M&P!!:p

I bought my M&P becuase it felt to me like a next generation Glock. Superb ergos, wrokable trigger, beautiful machining and finish. All that changed when I took it to the range. It flat shoots. It is amazingly wasy to shoot and has the least recoil of any 9mm I've ever shot. The front sight is so easy to track during rapid fire and its very accurate. Glocks are good guns but I won't trade my M&P for anything.

Glock 19 vs smith m&p 9

I went to the gun range today and rented both pistols.
Here is my opinion.
Both shoot equally well. If i had to buy today i would go with the smith. Why?. First of all i noticed a lot less recoil with the s&w. Secondly, the smith felt so much better in my hand. The glock trigger guard seem to rub on my middle finger. Thirdly, the slide is quite low on the glock. Low enough to take some hide off your hand when a right hand shooter would use is left hand to steady with. I know you glock fans are going to hate me for what i have just stated, but for me and i am no expert for sure but i will go with the gun I actually felt the most comfortable shooting. Its a personal thing and for me, i would go with
the s&w mp 9.

Judging from this remark, I would say that your shooting grip is all wrong.

As for the M&P vs the Glock....

You really can't go wrong, but the Glock has the more proven track record.
Heck, the G19 is already a modern classic.

I will probably never go back to Glock. The M&P has forever changed my expectations of a polymer framed pistol.

Get the M&P! You will love it.

P.S. If you go with the M&P, you really need to get the Apex Tactical drop-in sear. This $29 upgrade will give you a very 1911 like feel to your trigger. It is a 5 minute upgrade and the difference is AMAZING!

The flintlock had a proven track record... Should innovation have stopped there? ;)

P.S. I just realized that this thread is as old as a flintlock.

Actually, I don't think that it did.

Can you provide some evidence?

I mean without modern media, we'll never know how many died because their flintlock failed them.
And gun makers did not have "recalls" for defective guns and such (no lawsuits to worry about really).

There have been a few cases of M&P's MIM striker breaking from
dry firing. I can't believe they make the strikers out of MIM! The bottom
line is what matters to Clinton & Wesson, not your life. May as well buy a
Sigma, it's $200 cheaper. Here is a link to the broken strikers:

http://www.migunowners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=79152

It's been stated on the M&P forum that S&W puts more quality control
into the M&P's designated as LEO. Clinton & Wesson thinks that
LEOs lives are more important than yours and your family.

It's on the M&P forum also. Buy the Glock, the grip might not feel as nice,
but it is a tested design, and the QC is the same between LEO's and
civilian models.

The M&P is just a cheap MIM copy...
