I purchased one a few months back, a pre-ban, hi-capacity (or standard capacity, if you will) model that I've had no issues with. However in the interim I've stumbled across a Gun Zone web page which would definitely scare away a potential buyer with talk of kabooms, "phase 3" (horizontal stovepipe) malfunctions, and defective guide rods. Of course most of those maladies are mentioned in connection with the other Glock models such as the 23, 26 and 27, but still...

So, let's hear from some other Glock owners here on THR. Have you had any issues with the 19? Have you ever seen or heard of any of the above mentioned problems? Do tell!

I personally owned a Glock 22 that was nothing but problems. Light hits on the primer. FTF and I believe the occasional FTE. It was a Gen. 3 Glock. I think I had a bad batch of mags and the gun was very sensitive to "limp wrist". The gun was also VERY VERY ammo picky. I have heard nothing but good things about the 9mms though.

My buddy's NIB G19 had a failure to feed with a postban mag and 2183 followers. My other buddy bought a G19 but he switched the mag followers to 9mm1. He hasn't had a single problem. Most of the Glock 19 problems are caused by the 2183 followers.

Neither of my 19s have given me any trouble. The oldest is over ten years old and has in excess of 30k rounds through it,I quit counting a couple years ago.

They are 2nd generation models, that is prefinger groove versions.

My Dept uses the 19, and we have few problems. I can't stand Glocks, but I have to acknowledge thier lack of problems, mechanically. Our big problem is partially trained people fooling with the Safe Action trigger, and doing NDs into windows....

I had a few problems with my mags not feeding and got some Promags and have had excellent results. The OEM mags had the 2183 followers and I replaced them and they work fine now.

guide rods...

I've only had one problem with the G19 I have, and it was when it was NIB, I took it home to clean and strip it. Upon stripping it I found out the guide rod was broken. After getting that replaced it's been 100%.

I had no problems at all with the 19 I had. Then again, I probably only put a couple hundred rounds through it before I sold it for a 1911 :D .

Check to see if your G19 was upgraded as part of The Great Glock Recall of 1992.

That's when Glock recalled 400,000 of its "perfect" guns.

I've owned my Glock 19 for 6 years. Shot probably 3,000+ rounds through it with zero problems. Have 3 pro-mags that cause feeding problems, but use them strictly for the range. No problems with the Glock magazines.

You will hear very few complaints about Glock 9mm autos; the G17, G19, G26 and G34. They have excellent reputations for reliability and no kabooms.

Here's a dessenting voice: had a G19 that jammed with hollowpoint ammo of several types and with different generations of mags/followers. These were jams not fixed with a tap, rack, bang drill. I concluded that the gun would get me killed in some situations. My current carry piece is a revolver. Never had a jam with a clean revolver and factory ammo.

Yeah, I've got a problem with my Glock- a G19. I bought it a couple of months ago, just as a tool. I knew I couldn't love it. Now it fits me so well, is so darned dependable and accurate, that I'm rarely shooting my smooth-as-silk Italian model these days. Do I love it now? No. But boy, do I respect it!

I have a Glock 19, a recent purchase (FCA### serial number). I have over 1000 rounds through it. It has failed to feed JHP twice, both times the last round nosediving into the feed ramp. Ball feeds all day long. My biggest beef is that when I first posted about my mishaps on another Glock talk board, everyone and their brother insisted I was doing something wrong such as limp wristing the gun. It later surfaced that 19's with 2183 followers (which I have) sometimes have this problem. Slightly disconcerting, but easily fixed. So much for Glock "Perfection". That said, I do like my 19.

As some have already mentioned, there's on-going 2183 follower issue.

NYPD had a quite a few issues with the Glock 19 a year or so back. You might go to Tactical Forums and Glock Talk, and do a search for "NYPD Phase 3." Both forums had at good threads running.

Of course, there is always the E-prefix (though some D and F-prefixes were also involved) issue.

The very earliest designs had a propensity to slam-fire and go full-auto, but that was fixed many years ago so unless you have an early first generation weapon it shouldn't be an issue.

Let's see, in three years I have had one perforated primer and Mrs. Meek says G-19 is too heavy for a purse gun. :p

Glock 19?

My first Glock - picked one up to see what all the fuss was about (I'm mainly a 1911 or revolver guy).

Liked it and carried it so much had some Trijicons put on it and it doubles for my nightstand/winter carry gun (just a wee bit too thick for the shorts and t-shirt weather down here in a Texas summer, although I haven't had any problems in the few times I've used it in that role).

Accurate, dependable and can be stripped/cleaned/reassembled in minutes. Its comfortable (and the ammo is cheap enough) to shoot all day at the range.

With 1 pre-ban in the gun and 2 as backup, I have absolute confidence in holding my own in whatever defensive situation I'd run into.

Some gun purchases (few luckily in my case) you wonder what you were thinking about and others you never even give a second thought to, they work out so well. Buy a Glock 19 and you'll never regret it for even an instant.

Zero problems with either of my G23s. The G17s and G19s are probably the two Glocks I'd expect to have the fewest issues in general and really, I think the G19 is the most desirable gun in the lineup.
