would you buy a glock?

You hardly need more feedback on this lengthy thread, esp. from a random Joe rather than a seasoned semi-auto guy or gal.

But what the hey. Shot a Glock 19 recently and it worked 100% fine. Rugged, functional pistol. I'd trust it. Recoil was rather snappy. Gun was ugly as hell, with middling sights and no soul whatsoever. I get an unpleasant, EU, bureaucratic vibe from Glocks that is difficult to explain. They are Bauhaus guns.

The G-19's mag was really hard to load by hand. But the gun comes with a "speedloader" thingy, which I didn't have.

The only SIG I've ever shot (a P220) was hella accurate, smooth-functioning, and shootable. Loved it. I'd buy the SIG.

Actually, I'd probably buy a CZ 75B and blow the savings on ammo and silly gun accessories, but you didn't ask about that. :)

Really actually, I'd buy a S&W 686, but that isn't even in the right forum. ;)

I would not go to buy a Glock but if I happened to find a G17 1st or 2nd gen for under $250 I might jump on it.

The G17 1st gen just has a KISS factor going for it, but it still is UGLY

Would I buy a Glock?? Just traded my wonderful Springfield G. I. milspec for a new Glock 30 Monday morning. Heading out to the range with it right now. I'll post my thoughts about it's performance later on! This is my second Glock, the first being a G19 purchased a few years ago and sold when I needed the cash otherwise I'd still have it. This time I wanted something in a reliable .45 package that didn't need *tuning*.

Would I buy the Glock? Yeah, I've owned 7 over the years, still have 5. The 228 is a nice pistol, it just never felt right so it had to go. For the most part, I wouldn't worry to much about Glocks reliabillity. I owned a G19 that had a little over 20k through it without one malfunction.

I think that they are both reliable, but I'd pick the Sig.

Every Glock I've ever touched feals like:barf: in my hands.

Pick which ever one feels best in your hand, has the controls in the most comfortable spot, and has the best sight picture for you. After all, you're the one that will be shooting or possibably carrying it, not me or anyone else.

Good luck and happy shooting:cool:

I am not a Sig fan, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Go with the Glock. It is cheaper up front, has a lower bore axis, is lighter in weight, and is just as reliable and has a more consistent trigger action. It also has a more "trim" feel overall. It has a 4" bbl. and can serve as a duty weapon for pretty much anyone, but it feels like a smaller gun than it is. The only reason I do not own one is because the grip is a few millimeters too short for me to feel comfortable.

The KB issues are almost comletely related to .40 SW chambered guns (aside from TOOLS who shoot lead reloads thru them or reload otherwise out-of-spec ammo). Every manufacturer has screw-ups(Sig's blued finish was notorious for rusting, hence the joke about SIG being an acronym for StoreInGrease).

If you must have a DA/SA with a decocker only, take a look at the CZ 75 P01. Has all the features of a Sig , the low bore axis of a Glock and retails for around $450. This is what I did.

I bought a 19 in the fall of 1990 to see what all the Glock ruckus was about. Put my Lightweight Commander in the safe and left it there for a while, and adopted the Glock for a carry piece, and kept on going with the Glock. Since then I bought a 17, a 30 and two more 19's, my wife also has a 19 and a 26.

You're worrying overmuch about anything happening with a 19 in my experience. Yeah, it's ugly and utilitarian. So what? It's a tool. No more, no less. It works, it's reliable out of the box, it is adequate in every category and excells in a number of things. I don't think there's a better 'package' out there for the 9mm round, 19s just 'run' well.

But much the same can be said of SiGs, in truth...

I think your fears are irrational. The kB thing has been blown way out of proportion on the Internet. I love both for their own reasons, but I'd choose the Glock for myself based on price, ease of use, ease and low cost of repair, reliability record and less concern about banging it up/rusting from daily carry.

I have the plastic sig 2340 with 2 SIG barrels (The factory 357SIG, and a .40), and an aftermarket 9mm bar-sto barrel, and it regularly outshoots most of my guns.

I think the Pro is one of the most under rated handguns going . I was a bit skeptical when I read some of the first reports on it and took Ayoob's claim it out shot his 226 with a grain of salt but ya know , it's turned out to be the best shooting gun I have . For whatever reason , Sig "Classic" snobs don't seem to care for them but IMO it's the best in their range when cost:ease to operate , care for and shoot:accuracy:fun is balanced out . I do wish they had made a compact version of it .If they had , I could probably even be talked down to owning only 2 pistols if I had to , between it and my HK4 but that's almost like cheating . :D

Would I buy a Glock?
NOT in this lifetime! I'll stick with my Beretta, Kahr and SA Mil Spec.
Glocks are a fine well and made pistol, just not what I want.

I wouldn't say no to a Sig Pro -- and may get one when the funds come in. As it stands, it's one of the more affordable Sigs.

I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but if you're going to be using postban mags on your G19 then make sure to change the mag followers to 9mm1 or 9mm3. Do a search over at GT and you'll find lots of posts about people having feeding problems with the postban mags and the followers used by Glock. Not everyone has problems but why take a chance with mag followers. Oh yeah, Glock mags are a PITA to take apart.

Oh yeah, Glock mags are a PITA to take apart.

Nonsense. Just squeeze the lower part of the magazine slightly inward. Then take your other hand and slightly depress the little retaining button with a punch. Using your third hand... well... okay, maybe they are a little annoying. :D

Yes, I would.

Given the choice you stipulate, I'd go with the Glock 19. My experience is limited to a few thousand rounds but it has been entirely reliable with three types of factory magazines. Simple, solid, a bit blocky but comfortable to shoot, and (fairly) compact and light enough for daily carry. I DON'T carry mine much but that's due to my long-standing relationship with the .45 Commander. ;)

The SiG is a nice pistol, but I don't care for the higher bore axis.

Best of luck,
Johnny

Where the heck are you people shopping? Brand new Glocks around the metro Atl. area are around 450.00.

And yes, another vote for the G-19.
