glock 21

My own experience with G21's is really good. Across 10 years of hard shooting I've found my 2nd Gen to be a gem. I say that as maintenance is low and accuracy is high.

It is one big gun, all the way around. I like the big grip, specifically because the gun does not slosh around in my hand. I often wonder whether the grip size forces a better hold.

I also think the mass of the gun and the flexibility of the polymer frame contribute to a soft shooting experience. That's certainly rare enough in 45s.

Best of luck, and do tell us how your decision turns out,

I just bought a slightly used 21 large frame from a friend with small hands. Since I normally carry a 27, I am used to glocks, and LOVE THEM. After I pick mine up, (7 day wait in MD) I'll put a hundred rounds through it and send you all a report. I'll shoot the G27 40 cal, and my 39-2 9mm and the 21 45 all side by side to get accurate side by side feedback.
Shoot safely.

I just bought mine about a month and a half ago and I love it. So much more comfy than the g30 and (idk if this is just me but) considerably less felt recoil. Its an amazing weapon. And correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think glock has ever had a single side safety as posted above but I do believe that the same poster is correct in the thought that the mags are NOT interchangeable between the 21 and the 21sf. But just buy LE and that becomes a mute point when u get 3 mags with it anyways. Just my .02 so take it for what its worth

O ya, that was me. As soon as I read that I knew it must have been my typo. I fixed it to mag release. Good catch, sorry for the confusion.

I don't think there's much difference in them at all if I'm not mistaken. Think the difference lies in how they lock into the magwell. And I was also thinkin' I heard the old mags fit into the new, but not other way around.

Or maybe I'm backwards.

Or maybe none of that is true.

Anyone?

I think the big grip help with accuracy, they feel big in my hands, but are more stable when pulling the trigger.

I think it's also the large size and smooth curves on the back of the grip that makes recoil seem so soft (relative to the caliber and weight of the pistol). I think the recoil is distributed so well that it just seems softer, frame flexing may play a small role.
Glock 21's/20's have always felt softer in recoil than a 1911 of the same caliber.

Whats the diff in the mags? Are the 21sf ones thinner?

The SF stands for short frame, not slim frame, which is a common mistake.
The only change in mags from what I can gather is the new ones are set up for the ambi mag release. (gen 4?)

So mags should be interchangeable between the 21 and 21sf, that's how they list them at MidwayUSA.

I always stay with the caliber the original gun was designed for , like CZ75 is the 9mm , the HS-2000/ Springfield Armory XD-9 is the 9mm , the 1911 is the .45 ACP , and so on ...... But with the Glock 21 I took the chance and I love it . I got the Glock 21 and mine is new from 2009 . It is accurate and reliable . I love Glock's rust resistance and reliability .
I say get the 21 !

If your gun has the ambi-mag release you must use the newer mags. Any older mags you may have, or purchase used will not work. A gun without the ambi-mag release will use any G21 mag.

jmr40 is correct . When you get your 21 , make sure you get the "original style" mag release and not the ambi one . That way you can use both types of mags and not just stuck with one type .

There. Fixed it. :)

GLOCK isn't going to stop making new mags anytime soon. Why worry about it?

The large frame Glocks were designed around the 10mm, but I think they had an eye on the .45acp when they built the G-20.

Like the OP, I was looking at the USP .45 and the Sig P220, but I just won an auction on a 2nd gen Glock 20 10mm. Dies and bullets are on order, and I'll get a .40s&w conversion barrel too, for versatility, lead bullets, and small pistol primers in case large ones get scarce (again).

I love the Glock 21 SF! Its about as reliable .45 as I have ever seen. I have actually thrown one in a creek for about an hour just to test it. It was loaded and when I pulled it out, shook it a few times, it shot fine. I wouldnt do that with any of my other pistols...and Im a 1911 fan!

It sits low in the hand. Its easy to get a lead barrel for it if you reload hard cast. Its easy to work on and it runs great with little or no lube. Its not the most petite gun you will ever carry but its do-able!
