Glock 22 vs USP 40 S&W

I have been reviewing both of these lately as it is the right size round i want but am not sure what would be the best gun to own, if price wasnt an issue.

What is the main purpose of the gun first and foremost? that would help us out a little in helping you decide. I would secondly recommend that you go some where, hold them both and get a feel for them and see which one fits you best. Then if at all possible, go somewhere you can rent them, and shoot both, and that will give you a further idea about which one fits you best. Either way you go, you can't go wrong, they are both excellent weapons, and i personally love the .40 cal, so in my opinion you are right on track.

Hands down the USP! I have several diff't USP's and by far, they have the best qualilty control & consistently produce top notch product.

Just get both. A while back you were asking other kind of guns too, but I suspect you'll end up with a taurus or a 1911 because your local gun shop guys told you so.

The Glock has a partially unsupported (infiltrated) chamber that weakens brass during firing. Subsequent re-sizing weakens the case further and "blow outs" are not un heard of. A blow out will destroy your gun and possibly cause you injury. So if you plan to reload, the HK is the better choice.

This statement is gonna cause a lot of arguments. My advice is to do your own research on this subject and come to your own conclusions.

I prefer the HK P2000 myself. If not that than I would go with a USP.

I like my Glock better than my HK USP.

Why not go rent them and see which one you like better? The USP can be had without a safety in a variant called the LEM. You can also get it in a SAO mode with safety as well as a DA/SA variant. Good luck on your choice.

I agree with possum that telling what you want to do with the pistol (plinking, ccw, etc.) would help those of us who have used both steer you in the right direction.

That being said, I've tried both and I have a strong preference for H&K over Glock. I don't like the grip angle or safety trigger on Glocks. They work for some people. I am not "some people".

If you can rent or borrow both, that is the best way to go. Everyone's hands and bodies are different and you're never going to know which one is best for you unless you shoot (not simply handle in the shop) both of them.

I'm a Glock guy and own 3 of them......BUT, that being said, I've shot the USP before and I have to say it was one hell of a sweet shooter and seemed to be smoother than my Glocks.

I definetely plan to ad a HK to my collection sometime soon

You need to shoot both and decide what you like better. It is going to boil down to whether you like that Glock trigger, and whether you can handle the rough USP grip stippling. The only way you can go wrong here is if you pick the gun that doesn't fit your hand.

Does personal defense mean CCW? Or an around-the-house/shop or bedside gun?

The Glock was originally designed for the 9mm. Some of the 40s have had problems while the 9mm is super reliable. The HK USP was originally designed for the 40 .There is a very significant difference in the grips of the two pistols .The Glock is angled back much more than the USP . Pick the one that fits you best !!!

I would go with the glock22. The price is going to be cheaper the mag's more available and the accessories as well. Although the hk is an excellent gun the glock is just more popular.

Mostly home defense, not 2 worried about ccw cause id probably be better with a 9mm, then a .40

I have used a glock 17 before is the 22 nearly the same feel just slightly larger?

I have both and I find the recoil of the USP very odd. The action seems to almost move in slow motion. It doesn't want to get back on target after the first shot. I thought it was me but I have found other's who have said the same.

LAPD issue is Glock Mdl. 22, 40 cal.

That might be a good reason or not.
You should shoot both, go to a range and see if you can find them.
I doubt there are many H&K's to shoot at a range, but there might be.

Rection,the G17 and G22 are the same frame size.

USP's tend to be a notch more $$ and have a different safety/trigger setup. Different strokes.

I have 1 HK, and 6 glocks. The HK is a tactical .45, its the ONLY HK Ive ever wanted. If you absolutely positively need a bullet proof pistol get the Glock. Easy to operate, buy parts for, and service. As far as calibers go the HK shoots the .40 cal much smoother than the G22. But I think the long slide G35 would have the HK beat in the .40 cal. As far as other calibers go Glocks are hard to beat. You can get a G37 now that shoots the .45 Gap round and has the same size frame as the G17/22. Its Hard to beat a .45!

HK and Glock both make excellent firearms so quality is a push between them. You need to go handle both pistols and see how they feel in terms of grip, trigger pull, trigger reach, slide stop/release lever, magazine catcg, etc. If you have a range that rents try both and see which one you prefer shooting. Set your budget to buy the HK plus a few hundred rounds of practice ammo so price doesn't influence you one way or the other. If you end up buying the Glock use your budget surplus to buy extra practice ammo and range time. Price nor cool factor will matter one way or the other if the gun doesn't fit your hand making shooting it well difficult. Buy what fits.

The USP models that came out in 1993, the original was a .40. so the gun was designed around the .40 bullit.

I have both a H&K USP40 and a glock 22. I favor the Glock over the H&K any day. the trigger on the H&K is spongy and the gun large and bulky. I'm looking to sell the H&K if your really looking ha ha..
