I'm going to get my CCW permit now on january and would like to know which of the 2 guns would you prefer. I would be carrying in the ankle and would take it in the boat for weekends. I already have a 1911 full size 45 and a Glock 17C. A lot of people have told me that the Glock 27 kicks very hard. What are your opinions? Thanks

I'd go with the G27.

Try looking into the whole .40S&W caliber theory/meaning. The search engine is your friend.

It's stronger trajectory than a .45 and great power compared to it and the 9mm.

I personally love the .40S&W. Not a lot of folks are used to it. It honestly will give you a great workout!

But also you can add a new caliber to your collection.

I prefer 9mm myself. But if you want the .40, don't be put off by all the talk about "snappy" recoil. It's quite manageable, even out of the small G27.

I had a G23 and I really liked it, but the reason that I ask is because the 27 is a lot smaller.

I first had a .45 G21, then got a G27 .40. The 27 "feels" like it has more recoil than the 21, yes. But it's not going to break your wrist; I am sure anyone that shoots your 1911 can handle the 27. Plus, I shoot equally well with the 21 or 27.

Regarding the 26, I have no experience. If you have a chance before buying, I suggest you try shooting both the 26 and 27.

I am with CountGlockula on the .40. But I haven't read a lot of denigration of the 9mm's stopping power after the VT incident, either...

I've fired them both but went with the 26. I really feel my follow-up shots are faster with the 9mm. I've had my G26 for 4 years and do not feel less-armed carrying 9mm. YMMV.

It'll be your personal preference....I prefer the G26 over the 27 but then I've never been a fan of the .40s&w cartridge. I prefer any Glock in 9mm over the other calibers. Yep, I've fired the .40s&w, the .357sig, and the .45gap in the "baby" Glocks...my second choice for controllability after the 9mm is the gap, but ammo cost/availability/overall performance keep me happy with the 9.;)

I own both, I've taken 2-day training classes with both, but I usually only pack the 27 as a back-up to my G23 or G35. In light clothing, I usually pack the 26 as primary, with a J-frame Smith as back-up. While neither are bad/un-fun to shoot, the G26 is a little bit easier to shoot than the G27.

If you can get the "Law-Enforcement" Glock OEM magazines legally in your jurisdiction, the G26 has a bit of an edge in that it will hold 12+1 9mm's, while the G27 only gets 11+1 .40S&W's. BTW, all these mags consist of is a standard "sub-compact" mag body with a Glock +2 extension added. The Pearce PG39 extension gives the same capacity increase as the Glock unit.

Since you already own a G17C, if you get the 26, you won't have to stock a new caliber, plus your existing magazines will be compatible as spares.

Recoil in the G27 is a matter of accuracy, not pain. I used to prefer 9mm Glocks for that reason, but i've gotten to where I shoot the .40 as well, so I have a G27.
Can't go wrong with either gun.

A properly placed 9mm will do just as well as a properly placed .40. As long as the bullet is put in the right spot and has enough penetration to get deep enough to hit something vital then you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference. Proper bullet construction, weight and speed will determine the above. I prefer the 147 or 124 grain ammo but even a 115 will work given the considerations above.

None of this is intended to take anything from the .40, the bullet's diameter and weight are fine, it's just that it's pressure causes the handling of the weapon to be one of the things that I prefer not to deal with. I prefer the characteristics of the .45 over the .40, but as I said, with Glocks, I prefer a 9mm.

As always, YMMV...;)

I went to the range today and asked the clerk for the glock 26 to see how it felt in my hand and in my ankle. (here in PR they don't rent guns) I really liked it and I put my 17 round mag in it to see how it felt and liked it even more. So once I get my CCW permit I'm buying the G26.

My carry gun for over 10 years was a Glock 27. I never had a problem with the recoil. Then bought a Glock 26 and have never looked back. The 26 is a much more managable shooter. I load mine up with 147 grain ammo and carry one of my 15 round Glock 19 magazines as a reload. I am totally happy with my little 26 and I trust it just as much as I trust my .45's to get the job done.

I had a G27, purchasing it mostly because it was a screaming deal despite my misgivings about the caliber. I just didn't care for its recoil. While by no means harsh or punishing, it was too "snappy" for best controllability. I would greatly prefer a 9mm in guns of this size.

g26

I would go g26 W +p loads and maybe a pinky extention.For carry I would go with a hammerless S & W 38 5 shot,You can carry this easy even in summertime.If you can't carry comfertabley you won't carry as offten.

tblt, that's what I plan on doing I also have a 38 model 12-2 6 shot that I'm selling so that I can buy a 5 shot. This way my 2 carry guns are small and comfortable to carry.

The 26 is generally more controllable than the 27, something that's very important in a SD situation and not so much at the range. The 26 is fine for ankle carry in an appropriate holster with appropriate pants.

i like the 27 the 40 sw is a pretty good man stopper, i have never been a fan of the 9mm, i know they are making better ammo for the 9mm i just like shooting 180gr jhps if i need them, csa:)

The G27 has been my CCW pistol since 2001. I use the pearce +0 pinky extension and find it makes me shoot better. It is a great little pistol that has been 100% reliable. I am getting a 9mm conversion barrel and a G26 magazine for occasional range use.
