Glock 29

Why the 29 and not the 30?
10mm for CCW?
Don't get me wrong, I love the caliber and the gun, just don't see it as a serious CCW caliber.
How much experience do you have?
That's when I ask, how much experience do you have shooting living things with various handgun calibers? Especially if they reach over 100lbs such as a human...

Downing someone is going to be harder then one may think. Sometimes one want's it done as quickly as possible, especially if they plan on the other individual being armed themselves.

If I could only own one gun it would be my Glock 29.

My Glock 29 is the perfect gun. To me, there really is no better gun, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. I just can't believe that such an amazing gun exists, but is so under-appreciated. I am almost certain the G29 is Glock's worst selling model. It's really a shame.

Here's why it's perfect:
-It costs $500-550 (at that price, why not get two?)
-It's chambered in the amazing 10mm
-You get 10+1 rounds of anything from .40S&W to 800ft-lbs of energy, or 15+1 with G20 mags
-It's more than capable of human SD
-It's a capable woods SD weapon
-You can hunt with it
-You can go swimming with it
-It's accurate
-It's dead reliable
-Lube's not even necessary (but still advisable)
-You could mud-wrestle with it and it would still work
-It's cheap and easy to replace
-You can shoot .40S&W, .357SIG, or 9x25 Dillon with just a barrel change.
(same magazines!!)
-It's tougher than nails
-You can run .45ACP with a top end change (Glock 30)
-You can replace ANY part on the gun in the field with a damn stick
-It fits my hand as if Glock used my hand as the model (especially with Pearce +0 extensions)
-Did I mention it's chambered in 10mm?

10MM has more energy at 100 yards than a .45ACP has at the muzzle.

I'm sure there are some things I missed, but to me, it just doesn't get any better. I love my other guns, but they will always play second fiddle to the G29. I really can't imagine a better gun.

(2nd choice would be a GLOCK 20....you already know the reasons)

Yes, I reload 10MM. It makes sense financially to roll-your-own. I make amazing ammo for my 10MMs. When out of 10MM, (which will never happen) I can switch in 8 seconds to .40- Or .357SIG....0r 9X25. This weapon is as versitile as you can get.

Have fun, be safe and enjoy.!

Bob

I love my glock 29sf. However, it is chunky. The pierce grips are a must as well a 3.5 lbs connector. But it does it all. 40 S&W style loads from in Town CCW, heavy hunting loads for when your out in the sticks. And it can take full size G20 mags in a pinch. Great gun.

But it is bigger than you think, and thick.

I agree, I've had several 29sf's and 30's, and still have a gen4 30...but they are fat little guns no matter how you slice it. They shoot great...but they're thick.

I prefer the Glock 20SF in 10mm, the recoil is not too bad, however if you are not used to it, it might catch you off guard. Not a fan of subcompacts but here are the pros and cons in my opinion...

Pros: Lots of fire power in a small package with the 10MM
Cons: Again the recoil can be a bit heavy but it really is not all that bad

Again I do not prefer subcompacts, if I had to pick a subcompact Glock I would choose the Glock 27, which is chambered in .40 S&W. It's all preference though.

I carry my G29SF in a Smartcarry (summertime) or a Crossbreed Supertuck (any other season). There is no better CCW piece, for me, at least.

I handload / reload which means I can practice a LOT with it... I can use it for paper, armadillos with light loads or stand hunting deer (in a pinch) with nuclear 180-200gr bullets at 1200+ fps. It takes 15rd G20 mags, too. The pistol IS a bit thick but I always feel undergunned with a 9mm and don't have the money right now to own a pocket pistol AND my G29 ... so the choice is simple. If you REALLY wanted to, you could also make your G29 shoot .40SW if that's a big deal to you. For me, the 10mm is where its at. More capacity AND power than the .45ACP in a strong and compact package, and something I can use for defense OR field work.

I like the G29 but to me it is too thick to carry comfortably and hide well. I also find I can make faster follow-up (splits) with other calibers which are good carry rounds.

^^^It's all part of the simple "trade-off". Smaller, more manageable guns = less smack. Larger, more powerful guns = greater smack. I don't mind the slightly extra girth of the G29 for what it delivers to the target. The Glock 29 is just slightly bigger than a Glock 27 or 265.

I just started handloading 10mm with 9.3 grains Varget powder and am looking forward to getting out to the range with my 29SF. Pearson grip extenders, Lone Wolf Ported barrel. I'll bring my Chrony and see what velocity results. Will report back here soon as I can.

I use my G29 for my up north gun, which is pretty much all the time now. My original woods gun was a Colt Delta Elite, which has been retired to safe status after about two decades of loyal service, in favor of a Glock 29. Favorite load is DT 200gr XTP. Have rather large hands and don't use any pinkie extensions. Recoil, no problem. Before moving to the boonies, my EDC was .45 ACP, 3" 1911.

Have 2, one regular and one SF. Really like the guns, actually prefer to shoot them over my 20s (don't ask me why)

One complaint with the 29: why didn't Glock configure the magwell/mag floorplate like the G30, which works much better IMO...

Reloading heavy loads for the Glock 10mm requires--if you want brass life--an aftermarket barrel (like KKM) with tighter chamber and said heavy loads are much more comfortable and controllable with the G20.

And what's the point in reduced 10mm loads when you can carry an 40?

Yes it is -I forgot I use Varget for 30-06 - good catch! I meant to say PowerPistol!
Rest assure I did not mix them up when I loaded. :)
1. I doubt anyone has been holding their breath for this posting, but I did promise to provide results.
2. I realize this info could go in the Reload forum, but the point I want to make is that the Glock is a good platform for reloads.
Shooting Chrony Model F1
Lone Wolf 4" ported barrel
New Starline brass
155 grain Speer Gold Dot HP #4400 (was all that was available at the time I did my first reload)
Alliant Power Pistol 9.3 grains give or take 0.2 gr
Winchester LP primers

First I clocked store bought Hornady 180 grain XTP ammo - yes a different weight bullet. The info on the box states 1180 fps, but my Chrony measured an average of 1308.
Next I shot my reloads through the same Lone Wolf Barrel and the average was 1415 fps with a spread from highest reading to lowest reading of 31 fps! Not bad for my first batch! Also shot through the factory barrel with slower velocities recorded - average 1300.

I need to inspect my brass closely and see if I can tell which were shot from the original Glock barrel and those from the Lone Wolf.

So, a few years from now I hope to have the reload formula for my 29SF perfected for both target and defensive rounds.
Meanwhile, the G20 is beginning to look like my next Glock! :D

Experience? None.
I have no problem with using the 10mm caliber, none at all, great caliber, used to own a G-29. I just see the .45 as a more practical caliber, finding ammo, components, SD ammo etc...

My G29 pretty much stays in my safe; I carry a G26 daily, more comfortably than I can carry a G29/G30.

With or without an "ammo shortage", it's still easier to find .45ACP ammo, or even .40S&W, than to find 10mm.

This is so simple. If you don't reload, you are better off with the G30 or G36. If you are bothered by the weight, carry a ..40 or 9mm subcompact. If you handload, or want some thing that hits HARDER than .45, then the G29 or G20 is the ticket of the available Glocks.

G29 - it's a G20 that can still HIDE somewhat easily.
G20/29 platform - BETTER than the .45 series platform - get a plinker .40 S&W barrel, and NEVER worry about ammo shortage issues. Add in the .357 SIG or 9x25 for some longer-reach/lower recoil target work, and retain 10mm for hunting.
LoneWolf does a long-barrel FOR the G29 that gives it G20 speeds. Also porting, or threading if you want.

That's my logic on it. I, however, don't own either and retain a 3" SP101 .357 - it does 10mm work without the brass-chasing efforts, and hides so much easier than any glock could hope to. :p
