Got a chance to take my new Glock 42 to the range today. Fired 98 rounds, with results as follows:

50rds of Blazer, fired 100% with no malfunctions.

Followed by 20rds of Winchester PDX1. Function with the Winchester was not so good. No problems with feeding or extraction/ejection, but the slide did lock open 4 times in the 20 rounds. Don’t know if it effected it or not (and I didn’t think about it until after the fact), but when the malfunction happened, I was shooting from a bench rest at 25 yards. My son shot some of the same rounds free-hand and did not experience any malfunctions.

After this we fired 28 rounds of Federal Hydra Shok, and all of those rounds fired perfectly with no malfunctions (didn’t matter if they were fired from bench or off hand.

Gun was very pleasant to shoot. Recoil was extremely mild, very good accuracy. No problem keeping rounds in center of target both at defensive ranges and at the 25yd target.

I’m thinking the gun just didn’t like the Winchester PDX1, but I would appreciate feedback from others as to whether this is typical of the G42, or if you think there is a problem with the gun (or if it’s just a matter of selecting a round that seems to function more reliably for self defense purposes)? Thanks ahead of time for any comments.

Is there any possibility that you bumped the slide-stop while shooting off the rest? I find myself causing this kind of "malfunction" sometimes when I shoot autos off of rests. I think its the way the bag encourages me to choke up on the pistol, causing my support hand to interfere with the slide-stop.

That had been suggested to me on another forum, and it was something I hadn't considered. Yes, I suppose it was possible. That might explain why it happened only while resting on the bench also. Although the Hydra Shok didn't do it even from the bench rest, so I'm just not sure. I will be sure to be careful not to do that next time, just in case. Thanks for the comments.
