...So Glock turned sown the design that later on went to become Steyr's M(S)40(9)(A1) just to do this later on?.. and to think I might be owning a:scrutiny: oh wait, I can't say that:neener:

For a basic Glock that works great, they shore re-invented wheel quickly over and over again.

Why? Why? The 1911 design endured a hundred years.

Glocks... I avoid them. I'm not ashamed to say it... I only wish that they design a weapon one time and leave it alone when they get it all bug free and flawless in design, form and function.

Recently the Florida Highway Patrol conducted testing for a new duty pistol in Tallahassee, Fla. One of the pistols they tested was the Gen 4 Glock. The problem is Glock is only offering the Gen 4 in 9mm and .40 S&W, and FHP wanted a .45. To secure the contract of “about 3000 pistols,” Glock agreed to manufacture a special run of Gen 4 pistols chambered in .45 GAP.

:eek::eek::eek:

what it sounds like is they might have fixed the glock 40cals issues with tac lights attached (still remains to be seen), but in doing so, created a new issue with non +p 9mm ammo not working reliably with the new recoil assembly.

Ok I have to ask, if you take the light off does it still have the issue or is it only when the light is on?

I handled the gen 4 17 and 22 at an LE distributor yesterday. My department is looking at going to new handguns this year, and I suspect we will be getting Glocks. The County SO just switched to the M&P40, but they run about $50 more per unit than the Glock, and our chief is a Glock fan. He knows I am not, so he wanted me to come check out the gen4 in an effort to change my mind.

I'll reserve my final judgment until after I shoot the Gen4 22 (we will be getting the .40S&W I am sure), but so far I'm unimpressed. Yes, it has afterthought backstraps (which IMO make the grip slightly more comfortable if one doesn't actually install them and just goes with the frame as is for "small"). I tried them with the medium and large straps installed (though the use of a very 1999 roll pin system), and my feeling was small:bar of soap; medium: new bar of soap; large: 2x4. The grip still has a strange uncomfortable feel to me, though the small size isn't quite as bad as the stock 3rd generation. The gun still doesn't have any soul at all, and it still has a mushy trigger (though in fairness it has one of the best resets in the business).

I'll probably get stuck carrying one and there isn't much I can do about that. Glocks are good pistols, I'd never claim they were not, but they are not for me. I'd much rather carry a .357 Magnum, .44 Special, or .45 ACP revolver, or a S&W 4566 or 4586. I'd also rather carry an M&P, though it doesn't have any more soul than a Glock, at least it fits my hand.

i just fondled the gen4 a few minutes ago. very anticlimactic.

the SF grip isn't conducive to a secure high grip hold & has an overall odd feel to it. the grip texture is little better than the gen 3 rtf as far as grippines.

the non flush fitting backstraps looks like a cheap afterthought.

thumbs down.

I am a huge fan of Gen 3 Glocks. With that being said, I was very disappointed when I heard about the Gen 4. Glocks are supposed to be the innovators not the followers. What is the matter with the current design.

i forgot to mention that my thumb (keeping in mind i have small hands) was unnervingly close to that huge mag catch button on the gen 4.

the grip, well it just bows too much inwards, so your hand doesn't intuitively achieve the secure high grip that's needed for the best control. the grip has a less defined, more generic feel to it than the gen 3's....

Did you know the GEN 4 barrel is proprietary as well because of that stupid recoil spring assembly? What the hell was Glock thinking?

Glocks rule the way they are and have been for years... If you really want what the Gen 4 offers just get an M&P. Just sayin' :)

^^^you're actually trying to make a case for HK using this pic? i can post a pic of a malfunctioning HK, so what?

....glocks are the most popular pistols in the world for a reason. (and HK pistols are not)
