I was wondering, of the people that actually own one of these, what is your experience? Recoil? Do they kaboom any more than other Glocks?

I want one but someone recently tried to scare me away from them.

I do not own one. I have rented one several times, and shot about 400 rounds through the rental.

My overarching impression was that it is the softest-shooting 10mm I've experienced. If not for the funky Glock grip angle issues that I have, I would own one of these.

Don't own either. Have shot.

The guys at 10mm talk have nothing but praise for the Glock 20 and 29 (except, of course, for the glock haters like me :))

Recoil is no more than a .357 Magnum so that's not too bad. I haven't heard much about G20 KaBoom but had a KaBoom with a 10-40 after market barrel with no damage to me or the G20SF [bad .40 S&W case]. If you are really concerned you can opt for a 10mm Dan Wesson with a fully supported chamber and ramped barrel. Most serious Glock 10mm aficionados tend to go with 6" after market barrels for better chamber support and more FPS. You might want to check these Glock specific forums too:

I have a 20SF and love it. I use a KKM barrel which has much more support than the factory barrel. For target shooting I load a 180g. Montana Gold bullet over 9.1g. of Longshot. It gets 1250fps and the recoil is not bad at all. The cases look great and the primers look a little flat but not too much to worry about. It is a hoot to shoot and not that expensive if you reload. I say get it!!!

One of the better Glocks if you can handle the larger grip. I love mine. Recoil, even with the hottest Doubletap loads is softer to me than full power 357 loads, but you will notice it.

Even though I love mine and it fills an important role in my gun collection they are not for everyone. For SD from humans I think the standard calibers are good enough. Ammo is cheaper and easier to find.

I use mine as my outdoors, hiking and camping pistol. I do not loose sleep worring about being attacked by animals, but if it were to happen the 10mm is the only auto round I would want. If needed for the more dangerous 2 legged predators, it is more than adequate.

I had one for a couple of years. Great gun IMO. Recoil will be less than you expect. Less chance of KB in a 10mm Glock than a .40 Glock. (better case head support)

I had a .40 conversion barrel for it that was real slick. Just a barrel (KKM .40s&w conversion barrel) swap turns a G-20 into the softest shooting, most accurate .40 you will ever shoot.

I'm hoping to get mine back after a friend talked me out of it.

The G-20 and the G-30 are the two most accurate Glocks IME.

I have a G-29 and I love it.

Will probably be getting a G-21 here pretty soon, and will be buying a KKM 21 to 20 conversion barrel. I already have a few G-20 mags for my G-29.

I'm no expert (not sure what the "M" designates) but I used to have a 1st or 2nd gen Glock 20. Even as a newbie I never had any issues with the recoil.

I plan on getting another at some point in the future.

In total I've owned 4 G20s. Right now I have 2. One is basically stock and the other has a LWD P/T slide and 5.3" Storm Lake barrel.

I don't think recoil is an issue with the 10mm. The G36 I used to own jumped around a good bit more than any of the G20s have.

The G20 is the second best Glock model sold... only slightly behind the G19.

It is the softest shooting 10mm built. They do not Kaboom.... dont worry about Kabooms with G20, they have fully supported chambers, not like the early .40 Glocks. It is a big gun and it is to large to CCW, but... It is a great backwoods gun in a good holster/belt combo. And 15rd mags are less then $20 last time I bought some of them, 15rds of 10mm is some bad vodoo.

I have owned one for 8 years now... almost nine. I dont shoot it much anymore because it always works and hits what I aim at. Mine is still stock except for a Glock Butt Plug. I have carried it hunting many many times... Get it... especially if it is used and in the $400 range. If you dont buy it... post here and someone else will.

Oh yeah, holds alot of rounds. I think on total FPE it probably beats all other semi-autos, including the Desert Eagle .50.

Well, the reason I ask is that the back country hikes I do require me to lighten my load considerably. I've been doing a lot of off-trail cross country type of hikes and overnighters, and my Ruger Alaskan is a bit heavy. I understand I would need a traditionally rifled barrel to shoot lead hardcasts. So what's a good aftermarket barrel?

KKM and LWD and StormLake all make good conversion barrels.
I had the LWD in .40 and a 6" model and it was very accurate.
I didnt like shooting the .40 as much as i thought i would in it as the muzzle flip increased alot.
I sold mine as i needed a more capable ccw weapon, that and i couldnt afford to shoot the full 10mm load alot at $1 a round. The target stuff is .50 cents a round but is like shooting .40s power wise and boring.
Its truley a reloaders gun if you plan on ever shooting it much.
But for a HD weapon its great and you can practice with the .40 barrel on the cheap.

The G20 is quite a nice pistol, and very manageable for a powerful auto. The only, ONLY thing I dislike is its thick grip. I have average-sized hands and while I can shoot the G20 well enough, I don't find it as natural or comfortable as my G19C.

The pistol I have fired belongs to a friend. I have put Winchester white-box through it as well as Double Tap +P 180gr hollow points and Double Tap "Beartooth" 230gr WFNs. The heavy Beartooth rounds pushed back a bit, but still it was quite manageable.

I would say, as always, find one to rent or borrow and shoot it first. If you can handle the thick grip, then by all means, it's an excellent pistol. Enjoy :)

I've carried my 20 IWB @ 12:30 with nothing but shorts, flip flops and a white T shirt in summer in Florida. I'm 5'9" 155#. The 23 and 27 see more carry but sometimes I just like to carry the 20 because I can. I have both the 20 and the 20SF and the grip on the SF is slightly smaller so I've got adjustable hunting sights on the 20 now.

I picked up a G20SF this afternoon. For those of you in the lesser states, I walked in the gun shop, haggled the price a bit, and walked out with the pistol. :D

I like the feel. I hope to put a few rounds through it soon.

The G20SF is a fantastic gun, and very versatile. It can be one of the the softest shooting Glocks, with 10mm lite (FBI) loads, or one of the hardest kicking Glocks with full blast hot 10mm loads. You can buy conversion barrels and shoot .40S&W, .357Sig, and 9mm out of it if you like. The SF version fits most hands, and it still holds 15+1 rounds. Whats not to like?

I went to the range this afternoon and ran 150 flawless rounds through the new Glock. They were only Blazer aluminum and those tend to shoot soft, so recoil was pretty smooth. I also shot 150 rounds of reload .45ACP through my Sig 1911 and I have to admit, I was a much better shot with the Sig than the Glock, but I was good enough with the Glock to use it for what it bought it.

Blazer are Lite loads, but decent practice rounds.
From what i found is if it comes in a box of 20 it most likley is full power loads.Double Tap is the one exception to that.Hornady and Winchester Silvertips were usually the most readily available i found for full power.
My G20 wasnt the most accurate either, but more than enough for the job at hand.
Try an aftermarket barrel from LoneWolf and it does help accuracy alot.
