Glock or M&P.. trying to decide.

Trying to decide between a Glock 34 w/ one of those nice grip conversions and stippling jobs done to it, or a M&P 9 pro.

Question, is the M&P the only truely 100% American made and designed poly pistol out of the major contenders?

I think it might be.

Otherwise, I am sorta up in the air. That grip work might just make the Glock fit a normal persons hand, on the other hand the M&P seems a nicer pistol in every other way. I guess the only reason to go with the Glock is...having trouble coming up with a reason at the moment.

Decisions decisions....

Any help in this department? Its primary use would be for fun, not carry.

Backyard Bowling pins, maybe some steel challenge and such like that.

There are a lot more accessories available for the Glock, but if it doesn't fit your hand without a $100.00 to $150.00 stipple, grip modification then go with the M&P Pro. My wife and I shoot both in competition and they are both very fine pistols, She does better with the M&P and I do better with the Glock. It just depends which one works better for you.

I have to pay more attention to my buddies M&P trigger, I had no issues with it, but if the Glock is superior that would be a plus in the Glock column.

I shoot the M&P much better stock, and of course I havent run into a grip modded Glock yet, so its hard to know what that would be like, but if it worked <and I dont see why it shouldnt> would be kinda fun to have done. Tickles me for some reason after seeing that job here on the forum.

M&P, Glocks don't do it for me, but everybody has their own opinion of course.

I have nothing bad to say about either one.

If you have already tried the Glock and the M&P, and the Glock grip just doesn't work for you but the M&P's grip works fine, then I don't see why you would spend extra money have the Glock's grip modified.
Just get the M&P.
But if you have not tested either one, or have only tested one of the two, then you owe it to yourself to get your hands on both and compare them over a range session.
I have no problem with the Glock grip angle and I see no need to send it off for a handle modification.

I do however use a piece of rubber bicycle inner-tube over the handle to reduce the slickness when it's humid.

I don't know. kahr's are made here in the U.S. I think.

I own and shoot both....with that said, the M&P .40c is my main carry weapon.

I am not a big fan of glocks, just not my cup of tea, BUT the grip on my friends m&p45c is without a doubt my least favorite of any pistol I've shot. It's just too smooth of a grip for me. I would look at a RTF model glock.

$30.00 for an Apex Tactical sear to improve the reset feel of an M&P is a lot less expensive than making a Glock grip seem normal if you cannot or are afraid to DIY.

Modding a Glock's frame also usually screws its resale value for the worse.

The $50 or 2 mag rebate going on until May 31st on the M&P doesn't hurt a bit.

Just picked up the M&P9c last week for a steal at Buds. After rebate it'll come out to about $400 (including FFL). Can't get a new (or used) Glock of that.

Also, just as a side note: I have no problems with the trigger at all. Compared to my friends Glock (not sure what model), I didn't notice much of a difference. But this is my first hand/carry gun so I'm probably not experienced enough to notice.

New Glocks can be had for $399 through the GSSF program. Of course you have to pay $35/Year to sign up and if there's no dealer near you, you'd have to pay a transfer fee on top of that. But still, that's not bad. A new Glock or M&P up here seems to be going for somewhere around $550. You got a smokin deal on that M&P though. I'll be searching for a deal on one myself in the near future here too....before that rebate ends.

Forgot to add, the $399 Glocks are for the 9mm,40S&W, and .357 SIG models not including C models and the 34/35. Those are a bit more.

I personally like the ergonomics a lot more and I find them more comfortable to shoot than a Glock.

M&P. Far more comfortable to shoot IMO. Serrations give great traction, metal guide rod.. i prefer my M&P's over my Glocks.

Kind of a toss up between the two, I've had both, The grip is nice on the M&P but the aftermarket for Glock is far superior ,and trigger feel and reset is better IMO on the Glock . Also aftermarket sights are easily owner replaceable for the Glock. Can be done at home with a minimum of fuss.

BTW, do yourself a favor and shoot a XDm9 before you decide on the M&P or G34.

sold my m&p's. my glock 19 is the only polymer i currently own.

the m&p's weren't bad, but they just didn't fit my hands quite right (the trigger guard isn't undercut enough). the triggers weren't that great either (no discernible reset, the mp45's is too heavy). i also had probs with my mp40c that s&w could never fix after 3 trips back to the factory.

Out of those two I chose the M&P. I traded my Glock 30 (for an XD) and I own a M&P .40 Compact (along with two XDs which you might want to consider).

The trigger on my M&P is actually better than the one on my old Glock. The M&P comes with 3 interchangable backstraps so you can tune the grip to your hand.

I'll echo what some others have said, go out and try them for yourself as my preference may not suit you.

personally the trigger was one of the biggest turn offs for me when I shot a glock. but to each his own. you just have to get out there and find what feels the best to you.
