GLOCK vs. XD

They are both good pistols. They both do the same thing for around the same price.

There is not amazing difference between the two. Hell, buy whichever one is cheaper. There, you've bought the same thing as the other brand but for less. There is your advantage.

Clint's second pick after his 1911, quote:

"My next favorite pistol is a Springfield XD 5" .45 ACP pistol. This pistol is equipped with flames courtesy of Jeremy from the Springfield Custom Shop. Again, a bit bold, but I like the pistol and I like flames like those adorning hot rods, so I asked for flames and got 'em. Above all else the gun is not boring black--Jeremy is making me another even cooler one as I write this--and the XD is a solid pistol and has held up very well to very intense range work. It's no secret I like the XD and it is my favorite of the polymer pistols."

Glock no question.

Nobody I would listen to recommends an XD. People that train/teach high round count classes etc...

Then again, free knowledge isn't always valued by some...

Edit: Glocks in 9mm that is.

I was just adding fuel to the fire, in all seriousness I think Rob Pincus said it best: http://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/articles/handguns/choosing-a-defensive-handgun/

"I strongly believe that the simplicity of the use and instruction in the modern designs such as the Glock family of pistols, the Springfield XD and the Smith & Wesson M&P offers huge advantages in a combative pistol. Pull the trigger and they go “Bang!”… the same way every time. No de-cocking, no separately operated external safety. Finger off the trigger and you’re in safe mode...... "

"......as far as style goes, I say that if it doesn’t cause a compromise in reliability, efficiency, weight, comfort, caliber or accuracy, carry the version of the pistol that makes you happy. As long as you can shoot it well, operate it efficiently and carry it conveniently, let your friends snicker at your tiger-striped stainless/blued Browning High Power if they want."

The one you shoot better.
This is what I was going to post but I was too slow. Is there any way you can shoot both & compare? I own an XD but I have shot a couple of Glocks & really liked the way they shot & handled.

As the XD doesn't have a misshaped front strap that's the one I'd go with, though my favorite striker fired pistol series is the M&P.

I'd rather have a Beretta PX-4C than either.

i own a g22, g34, and a xdm 9mm 3.8. i like each one of them but in all honesty i put my faith in my glocks. i love the xdm for its size, asthetics and accuracy but i feel that the glock is much more reliable and after about 1000 rds the trigger seems much smoother than the xdm

ive put about 400 rds thru my xdm 9mm - 0 malfunctions
1500 rds thru my g22- 0 malfunctions
15000 + rds thru my g34- 0 malfunctions (aside from some limp wristing)

point is, clean guns work better, springfield or glock, they are both magnificent firearms

Things I dont like about Glocks

-Not so rugged plastic sights from the factory

-Can only shoot jacketed bullets.

- Kaboom! I know 3 people personally that have had glock 40 blow up in their hands.

- I have big hands and Glocks bite my hands

- they are easy to limp wrist.

THings I dont like about XD

-Grip safety

i like both guns....I think they are both awesome. would I own either? yup...for me the xd felt better in my hands and so I went with that.

Love my xd45 tactical. Shoot it better than any firearm I own. BUT, my G19 is very easy to carry concealed and has gone bang thousands of times without a hiccup.

I think the Glock 17 is the epitome of a 9mm striker fired pistol. I like the ergonomics of my M&P better, but the Glock just works. The XDs don't have an advantage over the Glocks until you shoot 45 ACP. The XD45 has a more managable sized grip than the G21 or the G21SF.

I have both Glocks and XD's. The hump in the Glocks backstrap and the finger grooves don't work for me. The XD fits my hand perfectly. Both brands have been totally reliable. Good accuracy from both. The big selling point for mos people on the XD is the thin grip compared to he Glocks. Glocks are great guns. And the Gen. 4 with the backstraps may change my mind. I would say reliablity and accuracy are too close to call.
The Glock has been out for awhile so their are alot more aftermarket parts for it. And it is as simple in design as a gun can be. Two big pluses. But SA has great customer service. Basically try to shoot both and see which works best for you.

In my opinion...

For me, this is how it breaks down:

M&P>XDm>XD>Glock 9mm>all other polymer pistols

If I had to trust one to go to hell and back with me, it would be a glock. Any other time (i.e. normal home defense, carry, etc), I'd say the XD, simply because I shoot the XD better. It has something to do with the trigger and grip angle, for me I guess... but I am a much better shot with a XD than a Glock, and I own both.

I've owned both and shot 2000+ rounds through each and NO HICCUPS at all. I have small hands so I gravitated to the XDm since you can change the grip size. XDm just seemed to fit my hands better and was more comfortable to shoot. The additional grip safety is a nice feature too on the XDm. I don't really consider the "Glock Safe Action Trigger" a safety. If it's on the trigger, it's not safe in my book. The only thing I don't like about the XDm is that it has a high bore axis which makes the gun a little taller.

i own glocks and xd's both, i personally prefer the xd, but imho they are both very fine firearms that are reliable, and accurate. you can't go wrong with either one.
